Master P has dished out some details about what it was like to manage Meek Mill and revealed that his deal with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group wasn’t ideal.

During an appearance on the The Gauds Show podcast, the No Limit boss spoke about managing Meek and trying to guide him in the right direction when it came to signing a deal. According to P, he knew Meek was a natural talent and told him he didn’t need to sign with anyone.

“I was Meek Mill’s manager. Me and James, when he first started,” he said. “So, let me tell you why I stopped. I knew that Meek was talented, at the beginning. We had that song. I was like, ‘Meek, you don’t need to sign with nobody.’ Meek was like, ‘I’m gonna sing with Ross.’ I had looked at the contract and Ross a good dude. But he ain’t have his business straight.”

Master P continued: “Ross got his shit together now. He a boss. But I’m saying, at that time, you evolving, I seen it, I had the crystal ball, but [Meek] ain’t want to listen. I told James, ‘Hey, it’s cool, you gon’ handle that.’ I ain’t never got mad at Meek, I just walked away from the deal ’cause if you don’t see what I see. I been there already.”

The host noted that Master P would’ve received all the blame had he stayed involved in that deal, and the No Limit founder agreed but added that God’s plan will always come to fruition.

“But look what God did, he had to go find out on his own, and now he’s in a better position,” he said. “But I’m tellin’ you, I knew he was a boss from jump.”

Meek Mill’s label issues have been well-documented. In October 2021, the Philly native took to Twitter to air out his issues with an unspecified label. According to Meek, he hadn’t received a single penny and didn’t know how much money his label had taken off his earnings.

“I haven’t get [sic] paid from music and i don’t know how much money labels make off me,” Meek wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “I need lawyers asap!!!”

He added: “Ask the record label? how much have you spent on me as a artist? then you ask how much have you made off me as a artist? i’m about to make my record deal public by monday just to let the world see what these people on!!!”

Rumors about trouble within the MMG camp had circulated for years, and fans assumed it came full circle with Meek’s tweet. However, Rick Ross addressed the rumors during an interview with Billboard in December 2021.

According to Rozay, no matter the issue with him and his artists, he always wishes for them to succeed.

“I feel like we’re both hustlers,” Ross said when asked what’s the status of their relationship. “That’s one thing about life, you either grow together or grow apart. As a boss, you make that decision, because whatever it is you want to do, Ricky Rozay wants to see you do it. There’s a lot of people that didn’t last or was still down with me the way Meek is — so I want to see the homie shine regardless.”
