Master P Dances, Mary J Acts

Rappers dancing? It appears to be true. No Limit Soldier Lil’ Romeo was scheduled to appear in next season’s Dancing With The Stars. Unfortunately for him, a basketball injury led him to call things off. So, no more No Limit Soldiers on the show, right? Apparently, Master P felt that wasn’t an option, so he opted to step into the spot his son left empty. Next season, P will join a cast of entertainers on the show and will be paired with professional dancer Ashly DelGrosso. Others scheduled to appear in next season’s Dancing With the Stars include Jerry Rice, Tia Carrere and Tatum O’Neil.

P isn’t the only person trying new things. Singer Mary J. Blige is doing the same as she attempts to tackle an important acting role. VH1 just reported that Mary will be starring in a biopic about legendary singer Nina Simone.

The actress showed no fear entering into this project. “I’m going to really grind and try and figure out how to bring Nina back to life, like Jamie Foxx did with ‘Ray,'” Blige said. “I’m going to take it seriously — I’m not just going to take advantage of being the artist they picked.”

In order to study Simone, Mary read some biographies and listened to old songs. Within her readings, she found many similarities between her and Simone.

“Our fans love us real hard,” she said. “Her fans wanted to hear whatever they wanted to hear from Nina — the same kind of thing with men, bad men, you know. Then she finally ends up with the good one, and then she dies.”

Still, similarities don’t always equate to success on the big screen and Mary is aware of her flaws. She also notes that she knows how to fix them and she’s ready for a challenge.

“I’ve got to get acting coaches. It takes a lot of confidence to get you to this point, and I’m on my way to my confidence not being cocky or arrogant, but just very confident and sure. But I know I really got to nail this part, let you know I’m serious about it.”

Meanwhile, Mary will drop her new album, The Breakthrough this Tuesday
