Masta Ace has bent the rules of Hip Hop once again, revealing that he’s hitting the Great White Way with his new musical, “The Falling Season.”
Produced by Rhymes Over Beats, the venerated MC hosted a series of readings of the upcoming musical, which is loosely based on his albums Disposable Arts, A Long Hot Summer and The Falling Season, in New York City, with the final being held on June 20.

“Our entire cast and our brilliant director Todd Underwood did an incredible job taking what was supposed to be a simple staged reading and bringing this story to life in a way I was not expecting!” Masta Ace said in an emailed press release statement. “The fact that several people who attended hit me afterwards saying they ‘wanna see it again’, is a really good indication that we have something special with THE FALLING SEASON MUSICAL!”
“The Falling Season” is the story of a young man’s struggle to become the man he wants to be while navigating the ills of his Brooklyn neighborhood and managing a series of tumultuous relationships. During the summer of 1988, right before his senior year in high school, the protagonist (AVIS) is hoping to be the first in his family to go to college. However, unexpected circumstances have put all of his hopes and dreams of a better life in jeopardy.

The musical will premiere on London’s West End in Spring 2024, followed by a run in New York City in 2025. It’s uncertain, however, if the New York City run will be on or off Broadway.
This isn’t the first time that Masta Ace has experimented with different artistic expressions of Hip Hop.
Last year, he celebrated the 32nd anniversary of his debut album, Take a Look Around, by releasing his own action figure — and it sold out quickly.
The Juice Crew rapper’s first solo release arrived on July 24, 1990, and to commemorate the occasion, the 55-year-old rapper designed a one-of-a-kind action figure, which dropped on July 27 of 2022.
The $90 Music Man Action Figure is decked out in Masta Ace’s signature grey and yellow suit combo, as seen on cover art of Take a Look Around, and stands at 3.75 inches tall. The figures were hand painted, hand numbered and made from biodegradable resin.

The back of the figurine’s box is also labeled with a lyric from “Four Minus Three,” one of the tracks on Take a Look Around. “Lyrics of dialect come from all angles,” it reads. “The cordless mic in my hand still strangles.”
Masta Ace was delivered one of the figurines on July 24, and he posted an unboxing video on Instagram to show the fans.
