“Martin” Star Tommy Ford Dead After Being On Life Support

The Hip Hop world lost a figure from one of its most beloved television shows, Martin, as actor Tommy Ford died today (October 12) at the age of 52 (or 54, according to some reports) after being hospitalized on Sunday and placed on life support.

The actor, who played Martin Lawrence’s best friend on Martin for five seasons, suffered a ruptured aneurysm in his abdomen Sunday (October 9), according to TMZ. He was placed on life support and his family decided to let him pass naturally today.

Ford passed away surrounded by family and friends in an Atlanta hospital, publicist Jay Mathis confirmed on Twitter.

The Hip Hop community sent prayers for Ford as he was fighting for his life. When he passed, many expressed their sadness on social media at losing the man whose character hilariously never seemed to have a job. Ford also appeared in the movie Harlem Nights with Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor.

    1. 2016 ain’t no joke, I can’t remember so many celebrities dying in one year, RIP to big Tom. For my generation, Martin was bigger than any other show…

    2. Who? And how is this hiphop? Must be a slow news day, i’m surprised even TMZ reported about this. Honestly i have never heard of dude before his death.

    3. What has this to do with hiphop? Hiphops most beloved tv show? Really? Martin Lawrence is wack. You have 20.000 shows like Martin totally wack. No disrespect to the guy who died but fuck off DX..

    4. For all these lil yachi, 21 savage fans on here that have never heard of Tommy and wonder why he is on Hip Hop DX, in the 80s and 90s, hip hop culture was not as accepted as it is today. “Martin” really helped bring that to TV. He even had Notorious B.I.G on an episode. Big Seans video “play no games” is a parody of the sitcom fyi. R.I.P. Tommy

      1. in the 80s and 90s we had MTV Yo Raps with the best quality rap music ever. Today we have only hip-pop on TV. and not to forget Will Smith (Prince of Bell Air), all the Westcoast movies such as Boyz in da Hood etc. Anyhow I have never heard of that dude back then, but anyways RIP…

      2. Because Biggie was in the show its a hiphop beloved show. Fuck off. Run Dmc already did movies in the 80′ s. Besides that Martin was a weak show show. Im not a Lil Yacti FAN

    5. I grew up in the 80s, Ive never been a fan of Martin or his sitcom, I’m just explaining why its on this website. Martin didnt make hip hop, martin contributed to bringing it to the main stream. What does run dmc have to do with martin? You might as well be a lil Yachi fam because u are just as stupid. Suck a dick, swallow, choke and die. Fuck out of here
