Machine Gun Kelly was looking forward to finally attending Coachella this year after allegedly having been banned since 2012, but daddy-daughter time is going to take precedence instead.

In a post to Twitter/X on Friday (April 12), the Cleveland native explained that his 14-year-old daughter Casie has a volleyball tournament that falls on the same days as the annual festival this year (which takes place April 13 and 14, then again on April 20 and 21).

He also said they banned him in 2012 – for reasons he doesn’t even know.

“never been to a coachella, they banned me in 2012 for whatever reason, i was looking forward to finally going this year but my daughters volleyball tournament ended up on the same days so yall will have to lmk how it is, she comes first,” he said.

As Billboard pointed out, MGK called the festival a “huge joke” in a tweet in 2012 – which may have been tied to him finding out he was banned.

“Coachella is a huge joke,” he wrote one week after the 2012 festival. “Its corporate as fuck and they only accept the accepted but fake like they dont. Sad that music is so trendy now.”

Late last month, Machine Gun Kelly and Trippie Redd released a surprise collaborative EP titled genre: sadboy. The 10-track project features an appearance from JID and production from the likes of SlimXX, BazeXX, Ronny J and more.

On the lead single, “Lost Boys,” mgk wrestles with suicidal thoughts as he details his struggles with depression, singing:“Bloodshot, blue eyes, I recorded two tonight/ One is for all those I love, this one’s for the suicide/ Everything is blue inside, everyone at you and I/ People won’t say how they feel about you until you die.”

Elsewhere on the song, he alludes to heartbreak, possibly referencing his high-profile relationship with Megan Fox.

“I’m rich and still savage/ I’m rich and I’m unhappy/ I wish I was back in the days when I had a shitty shirt with my hat backwards/ Now I’m alone in a vamp castle, I’m telling myself it’s the last capsule/ But why would I even wanna be alive to see her with someone at Art Basel? So I…” he raps.
