Lupe Fiasco, Rapsody, Big Boi React To No Charges In Eric Garner Case

Several rappers and entertainment industry figures have responded to no charges being brought against Daniel Pantaleo, the officer who was shown on video choking Eric Garner. Garner died as a result of Pantaleo’s actions and Garner’s death was ruled a homicide.

“The message has been sent over and over…black lives don’t matter. #EricGarner #MikeBrown #TrayvonMartin #OscarGrant #JohnCrawford….” Rapsody wrote on Twitter today (December 3).

Mistah F.A.B. posted on Instagram about the ruling. “Y’all better strap up!! It’s a WAR going on Us against THEM!!!!! Except they can get away with murder!!!! We go out a MARTRY You a victim or a suspect???? Another one like the other MODERN DAY LYNCHING After a few protest, riots, burned down business BLACKS will settle down… But they ain’t Gon feel it till they feel it IS IT A RACE THING OF COURSE IT IS WHITE PRIVILEGE VS BLACK OPPRESSION How many more??????” he said.

DJ House Shoes sent a series a tweets about the finding. “#thenewblack will be murdered by the police just like the old. @Pharrell,” read one, while another was, “This is not a time for prayer.”

Lupe Fiasco said that people need to turn the attention on themselves. “You cannot casually celebrate your own demise in the club then hit the streets/tweets expecting justice from a system that benefits from it,” the Chicago rapper wrote on Twitter.

Pantaleo responded to the Grand Jury not bringing charges against him.

“I became a police officer to help people and to protect those who can’t protect themselves,” Pantaleo says in a statement that was published by ABC News. “It is never my intention to harm anyone and I feel very bad about the death of Mr. Garner. My family and I include him and his family in our prayers and I hope that they will accept my personal condolences for their loss.”

    1. I am truly disappointed with the state of hip-hop. most of the artists are black men who come from very humble beginnings. they have become very wealthy in spite of many hurdles and obstacles in front of them. they, however, with their success have a great opportunity to lift up their communities and speak up about racial injustice – ferguson, california, cleveland, nyc. instead kanye, nas, jay-z, lil wayne, fifty, fab, drake, say nothing. some of you may say they don’t have to. others may say I should stop preaching. if you think that, also know this, the rights you enjoy came from civil disobedience and disturbance. many black celebrities stood up with the brother and sisters in the streets then to advance the rights and freedoms we enjoy today. if these people are not willing to support us and those who look like them why should we continue to support them. have courage brothers. don’t just talk about it in a song.

      1. I’d argue a large reason people care as much as they do is because of hip hop. those dudes have talked constantly about these issues in the past they’ve been talking about the instances that weren’t reported. So to say now that they don’t comment is kinda silly as they were often the first. You missed it.

    2. fucking lupe….. Ok, so white people are allowed to go to the club and wild-out but blacks shouldn’t because of how others choose to perceive us? yeah buddy, tocrite cause he’s stated he grew up on gangsta rap. On top of that, its not like rap hasn’t addressed these issues time and time again. Fucking Chronic anyone? Return of the Boom Bap? Papoose’s 50 shots? He could have just as easily posted links to those songss…but noooo talk shit about how black people are to blame for white priviledge.

      1. a sentence got chopped, I said he’s a hypocrite cause he grew up on gangsta rap, not the conscious rap he does now. dude didn’t even know tribe, then he gonna preach like he’s holier than other blacks. give me a fucking break

      2. It’s not hypocritical if you see how the complex is using it against a generation who are all about “Now”. What’s hot now, what’s trending now, what does everybody like now? Most of the 90’s and 00’s babies are all about a turn up or whatever is the music used for the club. Club music is cool to me to a certain extent. But even myself, a college graduating senior, doesn’t choose to listen to a shot taking blunt smoking bad thick girl twerking song when I’m studying the history of Indiginous People across the world. You tell me what i should listen to now? Notice how I mentioned only the content that is already in most songs you hear on the airwaves or radio today. Not to mention that they most radio stations are under what, “Clear Channel” and what do they do? They create playlists of the newest “ignorance” which most likely comes in the form of a song. Ok let’s put everything into perspective now, Tech Savy Teens/Kids + Ignorant Music + Social Media Opinions + Money To Be Made – Intelligience = The New Generation who will be properly prepared for the “establishment” or system through the brainwashing. So why would he say that? We have people rapping about dope and never sold, people repeating lyrics from those fake rappers and you know what they do, they mimic what they think that artist does and now that child finds himself in the hands of the legal system where it has always been ok to treat African-Americans as they see fit whether for profit or to enstill fear. This is why he says that, not necessarily saying fuck then turn up, but more so of watch the image that you paint because most likely that same picture has been painted AND COPYRIGHTED. That was a metephor. On J Coles album, “Born Sinner” he has a song called “Miss America” where at the end of the song he says “Counting thousands, am I about dollars or about change, Am I about KNOWLEDGE or about BRAINs FREEDOM OF BIG CHAINS THEYLL NEVER FEEL MY PAIN……..They’ll never play this shit on the radio”. That being said, once again how is Lupe a hypocrite when says exactly what I say. So i’m a hypocrite too?

    3. Can somebody explain to me what exactly was the reason for no indictment??? a blind man would have said this is so wrong..

this is soo f’N sad man, the man got choked out, head stuffed against the pavement, said he cant breathe with 5 cops on him and nothing???? reallllyy??? what am i missing here man???
