Ludacris Shows Off New Grills Spelling Out Support For Black Businesses

Ludacris has a message for fans after getting a new set of gold grills fitted, and he took to social media to get his point across.

On Sunday (October 2), Luda posted a video on Instagram showing off his new pair of grills. In the clip, the Atlanta native can be seen standing in front of a brick wall while wearing an all-black outfit with his braids appearing to be freshly done.

The camera zooms in on the rapper-actor until he cracks a smile and reveals his grills, which spell out the words: “BUY BLACK.”

“Still Minding My Black Owned Business,” Ludacris captioned the post, which was soundtracked by Pusha T’s “If You Know You Know.”

Ludacris is no stranger to supporting Black business and Black culture in general. In 2020, the Disturbing Tha Peace boss launched the animated Netflix show Karma’s World, a coming-of-age series that follows a young Black girl named Karma Grant, who uses her musical talents to overcome any challenge.

In July, Luda announced he was partnering with Mattel to bring Karma’s World to life in the toy industry. The two launched a line celebrating season three that featured new toys showcasing natural hair curls, diversity and more.

“Mattel was so outstanding with their pitch compared to the other toy brands,” the rapper told Billboard. “Mattel blew us away with their presentation and one of the things that took us over the top was they hired someone specifically for Black hair.”

He added: “Myself, Mattel and our resources took so much of our time getting the absolute most authentic feel and look of the hair with premium quality. Even the hair roots are top-notch. When you touch the hair and texture, it will blow you away because of the quality developments within the hair fibers.”

JAY-Z Took Out Full Page Newspaper Ads To Promote Black Businesses In Their Own Cities

Karma’s World has proved quite the success for Ludacris, with the show now on its fourth season. With the last installment, the rapper aimed to educate kids about wider social justice issues.

“As soon as you have kids, you start thinking about the next generation and stop thinking so much about yourself,” he told The Root. “There’s an episode about standing up for what you believe in and why people boycott. If you’ve seen the previous episodes, you know there’s music, and there’s a theme.”

    1. Imagine if some white person did the same – standing up for their own race like this. That person would be labelled a white supremacist and racist and all that. Funny how that goes?

      1. White people did do that…it was called segregation….stop hatin…we give yall plenty of money already…

        1. It’s funny how you hate white people so much, yet segregation is bad. Show me one prospering black nation I’ll show you easter bunny. Wakanda is an imaginary place, invented by Stan Lee, who wasn’t black. How come black people in Africa hadn’t even invented the Fucking wheel when white people first arrived there? Who was holding them back?

          1. you’re the dumb one – on a rap site responding to all the low IQ people who should be the least of your concern. unfortunately we live in your head and you can’t get it up. that is your issue in your case it is individual not collective

          2. Stop with the “successful black country” trope….we arent from africa, and we built the economy of this nation….ur probably descend from some ellis island drop off(at best)….u havnt built anything so dont wag ur finger at the people that made it possible for u to leave your european slum…stop hating and let us do our thing…ur a guest in hip hop…so put some respect on it….

            1. Black people built wealth for private corporations as slaves, kind of like Asians who make your clothing and phones today, which is why anyone here vietue signaling still supports slavery, because we all know slaves make oir shit, and still buy it. The builders were the masons and skilled laborers who literally constructed the major cities we still see and inhabit today. And quit the “we” collectivist BS. YOU didn’t build anything. All because someone who had skin like yours doesn’t translate to “we”. That’s like me saying taking credit for Leonardo DA Vincis successes because I’m related through race lol.

            2. Everyone knows that this racist POS of a country was built off the backs of slavery so miss me with that the builders were Mason’s and skilled laborers BS next your gonna say that the Irish had it worse than black people and they were slaves too huh??????

        2. And now it’s the opposite, and black people are self segregating in some scenarios. With that said, it’s all goofy. Idk why everyone has to hate eachother off things we ourselves didn’t do to each other. I wasn’t around in the Jim crow Era. My ancestors weren’t in favor of it, and my ancestors didn’t come to America until many decades after slavery was abolished. Even if my ancestors were slave owners (they weren’t), that isn’t me. If my cousin is a murderer or rapist, that doesn’t reflect on my character or actions. We’re all individuals, and buying things based on skin color isn’t right. Buying things based on the value and benefit to small biz in general is what’s right.

    2. luda a legend and i get u gotta get the bag but walmart, target mattel apple google facebook inst twitter…. are not black owned they actually hate us but still use us put ur money where ur mouth is

    3. So Luda’s clothes, shoes, shades, cars, etc. were all made by black people ? Did black people sell the dentist the gold he used to make those grillz. This is so fucking stupid, its the REAL definition of racism. Im very disappointed Luda is bowing down to woke culture.

    4. Black americans are the only people in the world who tells you buy from a specific race (shocker i know), usually all overpriced and then wonder why nobody but black people (maybe?) buys from them lol keep making all ur business dealings based on u being black and watch no black small business succeed!

      1. how is that a surprise? Like, any of this? Black businesses are often some of the least supported unless the owners are a type of famous musician, athlete, or entertainer (or something corrupted and illegal), and in a society where racial bias is still largely towards other races whether you want to believe it or not, it’s normal for black people to request even more to buy from their own. Not to mention that products that are “overpriced” are often due to caring more about the quality of it, as the saying “you get what you paid for” goes. You see the same from various other businesses that are started up and small or built from the ground up that are more about the quality of the products. Finally, saying that “keep making all ur business dealings based on u being black and watch no black small business succeed!” speaks volumes of your ignorance, racial bias, immaturity, and over-sensitivity when it comes to black people mentioning race at all. Asians can make businesses and restaurants based on themselves being what they are, yet black people are not allowed to? How interesting.

        1. Actually no Arab, Asian or white owned store tells u buy only from their race, they rarely if ever mention race while trying to sell products… an say w.e u want I’ll go to the white Arab and Asian stores for business where I don’t have 2 hear race and politics all trip… thank you

    5. Issue with black businesses I’ve dealt with (I am black as well) is they’re ALWAYS over charging for everything. Total rip offs, because so many black people have that crav in the barrel mentality. I’m not making a point to deal with a business cause the owner looks like me. I could care less. I deal with a business if u like their products for the price they’re offered, and I like their business practices. This racist crap has to die. I’m sick of hearing it. Support GOOD businesses, especially small ones. Should just be about supporting mom n pops over anything else. They’re the ones we need to work with.

      1. Oh, so it’s totally fine for other races and cultures to mention what they are themselves or where they are from in the products or store name, yet when black people even mention that more should support their businesses, it’s a problem and there’s literally no good businesses ran by them. Funny. I love how you act like it’s mainly or only black people that do this too. Far too many Uncle Ruckus’ on this site.

        1. Other races like Arab and Asian tell you about their culture but they don’t try to make you feel like you have to spend money just bc their Asian or arab..they tell u cultural history yall try to guilt trip ppl to shop w u.. huge difference

        2. Huh? I brought up black specifically because that’s what the conversation was about in this article. I don’t support buying anything based on race. Idk where I gave off that idea? Will say too, “black business” is like “white business”. They aren’t the same as Jamaican or African business, or British and Italian business. Get what I mean? Skin color alone isn’t culture.

    6. And most black owned businesses I go to sell goods from China, made in sweatshops with modern day slave labor, and Muslim minorities forced to work. We all know about the slavery on the Asian continent used to make the goods we consume. Nobody cares. It’s so hypocritical and ironic that we allow it. Slavery is outlawed here and there, so the labor is outsourced to nations that allow it.
