Lords Of The Underground Declare Upcoming LP Their Last, Announce Tour

Supporters of Lords of the Underground (LOTUG) will be pleased to hear that the veteran Newark, New Jersey trio will be celebrating their 20th year in the game with their fifth album release. The tentatively untitled project will be executive produced by another Hip Hop veteran, Marley Marl.

No release date has been provided as of yet. The crew did unveil a sneak preview to the album with a video, which is below.

The group has released several hits including 1993’s “Here Come the Lords,” and “Chief Rocka,” perhaps the cut they’re most known for. Their last album, House of Lords, was released in 2007, while DoItAll released the Pete Rock-supported album, American Du last year.

UPDATE: Lords of the Underground have revealed that their upcoming fifth album will be their last “for a minute.” “This is probably our last studio album on some real shit for a minute as Lords of the Underground,” they said in a preview video for the untitled project. “Not that we’re breaking up. It’s not about the artist. It’s gotta be for the fans.”

Additionally, the trio is hitting the road this summer on an international tour.

“It’s time, man!” said Dotiall in a statement. “We’ve toured the world, we’ve done our separate ventures, and, now, we go back to what brought us to the dance. This time, it’s for not just us, but the fans as well.”

    1. so what exactly do they celebrate? they released four albums and only one of them was kinda relevant (in 1993)… i’m kinda sick how anyone who released album in 80s or 90s gets a ‘legend’ status without real ground.

    2. im tired of these no talent ass clowns actin like they invented hip hop. hell 20 years later u still know who they are. how many of these nowadays cats u even remember from 5 years ago and much less want to bump their trash?

    3. You bustas must listen the bullsh$$ that’s out now,Lord’s music way better than anything out now.

    4. I’m looking forward to the album they said it’s for the fans and the fans want something like Here Come the Lords. To the people who said it’s past their time you listen to your bullshit rap ill listen to real hip hop.

    5. I loved Here Come the Lords, but I’m not familiar with their new ish, I didn’t even realize they released so many LPs. One of them dudes now lives in Paris, but if Marley’s involved in the new project, that’s an auspicious sign.

    6. “Chief Rocka” was my joint, but I remember spending a lot of time trying to convince myself that I liked the album more than I did. Ntwisp raises an interesting point. I think it’s cool when artists find markets for themselves 20 years after they’re primes. If they made songs that peeps still want to hear or pay to see at a show, that’s not a bad thing. At the very least, it helps keep the industry going.

    7. I like the overall tone of the comments made regarding LOTUG, and I agree that it’s a good thing that the fans still want to hear they’re music 20 years later. Funny thing is that I just dropped their “Here Comes The Lords” album into my Ipod 2 days ago and that joint still bangs. However I wouldn’t consider them “Legends” especially since MOST people aren’t familiar w/their work after their 1st or 2nd albums. Marly however is legendary but like NTWISP said I too get tired of people calling artists legends and such due to more sentimental reasons than the fact that they dropped 1 or 2 records in such a long period of time. I think it’s touchy and awkward that they’d remind us all that they’ve been in the game for 20 years with only 5 albums to show. That’s a poor track record and in my opinion 5 albums in 20 years doesn’t add up. They are a dope group nevertheless, I hope Marly’s production is still on point too. He’s been away for a long damn time and I haven’t heard anything of relevance from him in a minute too. LOTUG – Here’s wishing you luck. If the album’s dope I’ll support it – Point, Blank, Period, no matter what they title they’re comeback/album.

    8. Lords is to me like a generic Das Efx, Das Efx kills that style better than Lords without question, Lords got 2 songs man, lets keep it real

    9. Damn it’s sad to see that this will be the last effort for Lords of the Underground, it sounds like they’re really going for that true hip hop sound in by bringing in Marley Marl and I hope that they have good sales with great reviews so they’ll feel like they should come back for another album.
