Lord Jamar posted his take on MTV’s EMAs on Twitter.
Jamar addressed certain aspects of the award show, which took place yesterday (November 10) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He also commented on Eminem winning the Hip Hop category at the MTV EMAs.
The Brand Nubian rapper’s tweets can be viewed below.
The series of tweets follows Lord Jamar’s recent comments rewarding White people in Hip Hop.
“Okay, White rappers, you’re coming to this almost as a guest,” Lord Jamar said in an interview with vladtv.com recently. “Okay, matter of fact you are guests in the house of Hip Hop. Just because you have a hit record doesn’t give you the right as I feel to voice your opinion. White rappers, those of y’all who really studied the culture, that truly love Hip Hop and all that, keep it real with yourself, you know this is a Black man’s thing. We started this. This is our shit. We’ve allowed you, those of you who’ve proved your skill and all that, we’ve allowed you to come in and kick your shit, make yourself known. You know what I mean? And if you have enough respect for the culture we fuck with you. But don’t push it too far.”
Following this, Jamar posted an update on Twitter saying that he had no issues with certain White rappers, including Eminem.
Nevertheless, Jamar feuded with Yelawolf over the comments. Yelawolf is a member of Eminem’s Shady Records imprint.
Eminem won the “Global Icon” award for his lifetime achievement at the 2013 MTV EMA Music Awards yesterday (November 10), according to heavy.com. The Detroit rapper was also named the winner of Hip Hop category.

First, if you don’t know who Lord Jamar or Brand Nubian was, go learn about hip hop, second, Lord Jamar is incredibly outspoken about race issues, and it is obvious that he has caused a stir, to put it lightly. However, his point does carry some weight, mostly that we need to start looking at everyone who makes music instead of just certain groups (so Jamar is wrong, but you can make a larger point with some of his ideas). We need to start promoting music that makes people smarter, better and more motivated, rather than the mainstream trash that people are force fed. That is the real problem, it isn’t about color, its about power, control and messages.
Its 2013. There’s is an abundance of quality music to be found on the internet. Artists have many ways to promote theirselves. Fact is that there will always be pop music. I’m just glad that one of those pop icons is a rapper who is lyrically the best out there.
Not disagreeing with that, but we need more artists that are in the mainstream and promote the knowledge.

I respect Lord Jamar for his contributions to hip hop, but if you think about it, this is one of the dumbest arguments I have ever heard. Yes, hip hop is a black culture and was founded on black people’s hard work, entrepreneurship, passion and pain. But if your going to use this logic, how do you approach every other comparison.
Take basketball, created by white men (or the Mayans if you prefer), but the NBA is practiced nearly all by black men. This applies to many other sports and no black people are persecuted for their participation in 2013.
Southern whites invented country music and there are plenty of black country singers who are critically acclaimed and well-received in the country world/culture.
No doubt there is a degree of racism in any aspect of our society, but that is a product of the larger culture, socioeconomics and hundreds of other factors. I don’t see him complaining about Big Pun, or Pitbull, or Jin. If his problem is that he thinks that white artists are disrespecting the culture and distilling it in some way, there are at least 10 times as many black artists bastardizing the culture in the way he’s so riled up about. Why not call them out?
The one argument that has an ounce of merit is the one made by Scarface over the past year, claiming that rich white corporations run hip hop. This is certainly true in 2013, but the fact that they hold these powerful positions is a product of socioececonomics and the ugly remnants of slavery. However, if you think there is some master plan where white CEO’s push their white artists more than the black ones in hip hop, you’re sadly mistaken. It is still much harder for a white rapper to make it big in the mainstream world of hip hop. Most that make it do so through the underground or the indie route.
I don’t see where this guy has a leg to stand on as far as this argument goes. If you think it through, his logic only works where it does so in his favor. The Euro music awards comment is just a joke, BET began long before MTV Euro and it pertains to a race, not a country. If white artists are more popular in Europe, it is what it is, but the above argument still applies. CEO’s see any artist as a potential profit, regardless what color and black people are far more likely to make it to the mainstream in the hip hop game (just look at the ratio of artists by race).
Sorry to rant but I hate when people try to justify their twisted logic rather than just saying “I don’t like these peoples music”. It always has to be some big conspiracy theory… With that said, there is certainly racism in hip hop, and it impacts black artists negatively without a doubt, but white artists are not to be blamed (unless they are just like Riff Raff, bastardizing the culture to fill their pockets).

I’d like to hear ACTUAL relevant 90s rappers like Nas, Wu, Mobb or Onyx members state their unbiased opinions about rappers today, than this light skinned militant motherfucker, who nobody didnt even care about during his era, and who got butt ass nekkid on the OZ tv show, for a white man’s signed check.
Lord Jamar is an icon of the golden years, but it seems he’s jealous now. He has not stayed in the game, he’s over. That’s his problem. In fact he’s sexist. He says hip hop is a Black Man’s thing. He also said Hip Hop is for Alpha males. Not women, it seems.

I applaud Jamar for having the courage to speak out. The white establishment in US entertainment are drawing their lines in the sand, especially MTV and the Grammy’s. He posed a great question. Why in the world does MTV single out and air a special version for Europe only? Why not Asia? Africa? Those two continents have far more people. Also, the fact that NO black artists were featured or honored says a lot. What says more is that the white artists they did feature and honor are performing black music. How was Eminem even relevant for an award in 2013? Who in the hell is Iggy Azalea and why did she do a weak Nicki Minaj impersonation? Robin Thicke performed his Marvin Gaye stolen track. Bruno Mars did his fake James Brown schtick. It was all black inspired just with no black people.
