Lil Yachty started teasing the album back in May 2022: “I try not to tweet ‘cuz I know y’all want [the] album… I’ll come back with that, best one yet. Promise.”

The effort will serve as the rapper’s first solo LP since 2020’s Lil Boat 3, which arrived in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200. The star-studded affair features Future, Playboi Carti, Vince Staples, Drake, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, DaBaby, Lil Durk and the late Lil Keed.

Yachty’s holiday season was nearly ruined when an album’s worth of material titled SONIC RANCH leaked online in December. It’s unclear if the unauthorized songs were planned to be included on Let’s Start Here, but the tracks signaled a pivot in sound with Yachty teasing a daring genre-bending shift.

“My new album is a non-rap album,” he told Icebox in an interview last year. “It’s alternative, it’s sick. It’s like a psychedelic alternative project. It’s different. It’s all live instrumentation.”

While the 25-year-old didn’t release a project in 2022, he stayed busy earning multiple producer credits on Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss. Boat even provided memorable vocals on “BackOutsideBoyz.”

“WHERE WOULD I BE WITHOUT OUR FRIENDSHIP @lilyachty I LOVE YA KID THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME YOUR INCREDIBLE TALENT AND YOUR ADLIB GAME,” Drake wrote on Instagram Stories thanking Yachty.
