Lil Wayne no longer cares to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show after he says the NFL “stole” the feeling from him by giving it to Kendrick Lamar this year.
When Kendrick was announced as the halftime show headliner in the fall, the Young Money legend expressed his disappointment at being passed over for the gig, which he had openly coveted – not just as an avid sports fan, but because it was his in hometown of New Orleans.
Now in a new cover story for Rolling Stone published on Thursday (April 17), Weezy says not only did he skip watching this year’s show, but the gig is no longer of interest.
“Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he explained, before adding: “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”

He also alleged the NFL had been seemingly hinting that he’d be chosen for the gig as they encouraged him to be more front-facing ahead of time.
“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” he explained. “If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing shit with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”
And then when he still wasn’t chosen, he says the NFL simply told him, “We ain’t in charge [of the Super Bowl halftime show].”
He continued: “All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved. So, I’m going to have to just settle with whatever they say.”
