Lil Wayne Names His Top 5 Rappers Ever – & Missy Elliott Responds

The Top 5 dead or alive conversation is seemingly always brought up in the Hip Hop world.

Lil Wayne joined Nick Wright for the latest episode of his What’s Wright? With Nick Wright podcast on Thursday (May 5), where Weezy was asked to name his Top 5 rappers of all-time among numerous other topics inside music and sports.

If there’s one thing Wayne is going to do, it’s show love to Missy Elliott, whom he gave his top slot to.

“It’s always gonna be first Missy Elliott. She’s a huge influence of everything I’ve ever done. JAY-Z is the best ever to speak. Biggie, obviously. Then I have the whole Goodie Mob. Then I have UGK.”

Missy Elliott got wind of Wayne’s latest praise and made sure to return the favor by thanking him on Twitter Thursday.

Lil Wayne Credits Missy Elliott As One Of His Inspirations: 'My Favorite Artist'

“Whenever @LilTunechi says my name in his interviews twitter don’t have enough space for me tosay my GRATEFULNESS because he is a LEGEND himself who birthed many emcees after him& as a man to acknowledge me as a big influence 4 him I send you love WAYNE,” she wrote.

Another reason this warms my heart is because I’ve seen many times @LilTunechi has said my name over & over for years no matter who the interviewers are he has never been hesitant to say me as a female & for that I am forever GRATEFUL.”

In the past, Wayne has credited Missy with inspiring him to start using ad-libs on tracks. They’ve teamed up in the past on songs such as the leaked “All 4 U.”

    1. Lol, here come all the Nas stans complaining about Nas not being in Wayne’s top 5 but Jay-Z is. Stop hating and go find jobs.

      1. Huge Nas fan but to expect everybody to put him in their top 5 is just stupid. Cant complain about waynes list when he mentions goodie mob. They deserve all the credit they can get.

      2. Everybody knows Nas is the Top Three so the masses have spoke Then Jay Z came after Pac died Brad and Chad are in a class by themselves

    2. How many times did this guy changed his best rappers list? Wayne is washed! Totally trash!!!!

      1. How many times has Em, and other rappers changed there list, it’s something that’s constantly evolving

      2. Lmao being upset at someone’s top 5 list seems odd. But we know why you’re mad, it’s because he didn’t put ‘Em on it. Not only did he not put ‘Em on it he said Jay is the best ever to speak. Eminem fans that are fans of just Eminem and not hip hop be so butt hurt when ANYONE suggest that Eminem isn’t the best.

    3. Nick wright goofy ass always got some slick shit to say about Mike while he deepthroats lebron but has the nerve to wear his sneaks?!? Fuck outta here

        1. They did two songs together. The song with Drake, Wayne, and Em for the leBron movie and another one with just Em and Wayne

        2. They already did songs together. That man favorite can be whomever he wants it to be, has nothing to do with being petty, if anyone js being petty, it’s you, like damn he is entitled to his fans. Smdh. #DoBetter

    4. People always gonna have something to say. Wayne has a great list. Even if you’re a “hip hop head” you can appreciate this list. UGK and Goodie Mob and Missy is a well rounded list. Lyricism and good song writing. As much as I enjoy Nas, Black Thought and Ghostface, the fact is they aren’t on everyone’s list and that’s okay.

    5. FInally someone that thinks Missy is in the conversation. She’s been one of my favorite artists too!

    6. That’s a great list though. However, for me it’s Biggie, Jay Z, Tribe Called Quest, The Lost Boys & Rick Ross.

    7. His list isn’t dramatically different from Em’s when he said Reggie, Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie, Andre 3000 from Outcast, which is an extension of the Goodie Mob

    8. When you do a greatest list, you normally name who you grew up listening to, and Wayne and Em basically came into the game together

    9. I enjoy listening to others top 5 list I respect Wayne’s list Missy Elliott imo highly under rated her creativity, lyrics and style will never be duplicated. My top 5 depends on the day but I’m going to say pac/biggie – Busta rhymes- ice cube

    10. Ice Cube, PAC, Biggie, Jay-Z, and 50cent but thier some many first tier MC’s like Nas said ant no best. Thier all Greats. I once heard Kobe say. If you try to disrespect any superstar and don’t bring ya A game. You’ll look up and at tha end of tha game. They have hit you for 40-60 points.

      1. Two of five right..swap out 50, jayZ and Cube for Jeezy, Eminem & Nas

        1.pac
        2.Eminem
        3.Biggie
        4.Nas
        5.Jeezy

    11. thats a super interesting top 5 he has though. not the typical cookie cutter list, i respect that

    12. That Goodie Mob song on DJ Muggs’ first Soul Assassins album is one of the greatest rap songs of all time.

    13. Top five list are so subjective and it’s always going be a great conversation ehether you’re talking about rappers, athletes, actors whatever.
But Just for fun here’s mine… Nas is my favorite of all time and I easily could put him at number one especially with his longevity but Rakim him he just changed the game and of course KRS wishbone in his knowledge and deep catalog …
      Rakim
      Krs-One
      NAs
      Kool G Rap
      LL Cool J
