Contrary to what many believe, rappers aren’t all about the negative aspects of life. Many emcees have always shown a tremendous amount of admiration, respect and love for those who give back to their community, in various ways.
This was made evident when 3,000 kids who gave back to their community were given the chance to see many of today’s most prominent figures in our culture.
Southern celebrities like Slim Thug, Young Jeezy, Big Boi (Of Outkast), Paul Wall, Lil Jon and Lil’ Wayne joined others such as West coast reps The Game and Keyshia Cole to give back to the youth who generously gave to their communities during the second annual Boost Mobile Rock Corps concert in Atlanta.
That’s due to the fact that tickets to the show were only given after completing four hours of community service. Young Hip-Hop fans rushed to sign up for the event.
T
his affected all the stars in attendance in positive ways.
“That’s big.” Lil Jon exclaimed. ”It make me feel real good because the kids are sometimes looked at like they get into a lot of trouble or they’re not doing what they supposed to do. But they’re out here giving time in the summer, cleaning up their community, just for a ticket to the concert. That’s why all the artists came out here, saying thanks for giving a damn,” he told MTV while backstage.
Lil Wayne added to the sentiment.
“They are our future. I’m young myself — I’m 23 so I know how important the future is. When I see anybody younger than me doing something positive or accomplishing any goal, I’m with it,” he added.
In the end, those who gave back got something in return.
