Lil Wayne Says Drake Gets Hated On Because He’s Light-Skinned

Lil Wayne has shared why he thinks people in Hip Hop “hate on” Drake, and he believes it has to do with the color of his Young Money collaborator’s skin.

The New Orleans legend stopped by The Richard Sherman Podcast on Friday (January 19) to share his thoughts.

“I get that from my upbringing, from being around Birdman,” he began, when Sherman praised his talent-scouting abilities.

When Sherman asked why people hate on Drake, Weezy didn’t hesitate to weigh in. “He red, he light-skinned.”

“That’s just American history,” he continued. “How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.”

Check out the full interview below. The comments about Drake begin at about the 16:15 mark.

Earlier this week, B.G. sent Lil Wayne a message about a potential Hot Boys reunion, telling his former groupmate to “stop playing.”

During an Instagram Live, the New Orleans native — who was released from prison late last year — made it clear he wants the rap group to re-form even though he recently dissed Wayne.

“Say Juvie, there’s people on my line, man, about this Hot Boys reunion,” he said. “Weezy, stop playing, man. It’s a big bag involved, man. Ya heard me?

“I know you super rich. I know you like Taylor Swift outchea. Come on, man. Stop playing, man. Let’s get to this bag.”

B.G.’s plea for a Hot Boys reunion was met with some criticism from fans given his recent comments about Lil Wayne.

One said: “Sir, you can’t diss the man and want him to help you get to a bag. He doesn’t need that bag like you do. Being humble will get you far lol.”

Another joked: “Wayne be on his mind every second of the day and Wayne just thinking bout coochie and drugs.”

B.G. took aim at his former Cash Money labelmate last month on a song with Finesse2Tymes called “Gangstafied.”

“My n-gga Boosie went home and my dawg was steady blowing/ My n-gga Weezy steady touring but he’s bitch and it’s showing/ I’m still a living legend, don’t act like you didn’t know it,” he rapped.

B.G. then attempted to clarify his remarks on Instagram Live where he said: “Y’all don’t understand what the fuck be going on, you know what I’m saying? I tell a n-gga I love him and call him a bitch all in the same sentence. It’s family business, man.

“Shout out to my little brother Weezy. I spoke to my little brother last night. Shout out to shorty, man. Still my little bro. Love my little bro. This shit be complicated.”

    1. Not everybody thinks like Wayne does. Drake gets hated on because he moves suspect. Being at the club with a kid, trying to hide his own child, going off on Kid Cudi when Cudi was suicidal, hiding his mom because she’s white, not writing his own rhymes and being a mediocre singer at best, hiding from Pusha T and having J Prince handle it for him. Drake is weak. Oh, And he hasnt made a great song in a long time.

    2. Black people pulling race cards on each other now? Maybe he gets “hated on” because he makes algorithm led pop music, doesn’t write his stuff and is mediocre at rapping and singing. I’m sure coming off like a simp probably doesn’t help either. No need to invent other reasons to deflect from all that.

    3. Drake is just monotone, one-dimensional and not interesting. It also doesn’t help that he makes music about his boring life and loser simped out relationships. He overstayed his welcome. Dude is forever wack to me.

    4. I hate Drake because he’s rich and famous for nothing. His music is trash. I’ve avoided listening to him intentionally but yesterday someone had a radio going and I heard Hotline Bling for the first time. I wanted to off myself for even putting those lyrics through my ears.

    5. Didn’t Wayne claim at some point that he’d never encountered racism, but now claims he used to hate on light skins based on skin color?

    6. Eh, J. Cole is light skinned as well, but he’s not trying to pander to 15 year olds the way Drake still does. Perhaps people don’t like Drake because of who he is as a human rather than the lightness of his skin.
