Lil Wayne appears to be starting the rollout for his anticipated Tha Carter VI with a single arriving later this week featuring the late DMX and Swizz Beatz.
Weezy shared a trailer for the single titled “Kan’t Nobody” on Wednesday (February 22) ahead of the Ruff Ryders-assisted track’s arrival on Friday (February 24). The beat for the snippet bears a passing resemblance to DMX’s “N-ggaz Done Started Somethin” from his 1998 debut It’s Dark & Hell Is Hot. The similarity was noted by producer Dame Grease who commented, “Ohhh a remake to one my classics!! #VacantLot”
As for the timing, it seems Lil Wayne is taking issue with his ranking on Billboard‘s greatest rappers of all time list.
“@vibemagazine @billboard [hourglass emoji],” Wayne captioned the post.
Swizz Beatz hopped in the comment section adding: “Owwwwww weeeeeeeeeee!”
Billboard gave JAY-Z the top spot while Wayne came in at No. 7 and he looks to not be happy with his slot or the list’s overall rankings.
DMX passed away in April 2021 and X had his name called much earlier than Weezy as the Yonkers legend came in at No. 21 on the list.
Billboard‘s top 10 rappers also included Kendrick Lamar, Nas, 2Pac, Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., Lil Wayne, Drake, Snoop Dogg and Nicki Minaj, in that order.
Wayne isn’t the only rapper to voice his displeasure with the rankings as Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Ice Cube and more have fired back at Billboard and Vibe.
“Who?” Cube asked rhetorically when a reporter mentioned Billboard‘s list. “I don’t fuck with Billboard or the editor. Billboard ain’t Hip Hop so their opinion don’t matter. So who gives a fuck?”
Cube added that his Mount Westmore contemporary Too $hort not being included on the list was definitely an undeserved snub.
“It’s an irrelevant list,” he continued. “It’s like assholes: everybody got one and they all stink.”
Ja Rule wasn’t included on the list at all and he complained about his omission.
“There ain’t 50 rappers dead, alive or waiting to be born better than me… #ICONN #Vibes,” he tweeted. “@billboard congrats to everyone on the list well deserved but check my resume… #ICONN #Vibes.”
We know Nicki got a nice little fart tank but a top 10 rapper of all time seems a little too high.
It doesn’t. We can have a friendly debate if you’d like.
Swizz is fucking up on this one for using a DMX classic joint for this overrated midget gremlin looking ass nigga called Lil Wayne. GTFOH!!
Bro, stfu. There wouldn’t have even been a dmx without ppl like lil Wayne paving the way.
Wtf? lol Wayne was wobbly wobbly dropping like it’s hot when X was reigniting street anthems with his debut. I hate y’all gen kids. Do the history, get it correct or stfu when grown folks talk on the real.
You’re just a simple for old losers who always sucked at rapping. Wayne ks up there with the greats like TI and Jeezy.
Erm, DMX has around 10 years head start on Wayne, both are greats, but you need to cram on your history.
Wayne is great BUTTTT Dmx was around before Wayne. Dmx was the first artist to drop 2 albums in the same year, and both go platinum. I understand what you meant but you’re off just a bit.
2 phenomenal artist!
Bro, are you high, X came out WAYY before weezy, and trust me, I’m a weezy fan till I bleed dry, but gotta give credit where credit is due
Tha Carter 6 LOL. Super wack album title. I think its time to move on or at least use a subtitle my G.
Yall dumb Wayne was signed to a record deal before DMX. Not saying Wayne was top of the charts back in his Hot Boys days but fax is fax, and 🧢 is 🧢… That list is 🧢..
