Young Guru has scoffed at Ebro Darden‘s claim that 50 Cent would easily defeat Lil Wayne in a Verzuz battle, saying the latter would “wash” the former.

Guru’s pushback comes after Ebro set off a firestorm on Twitter earlier this week by declaring: “What Jadakiss did to Dipset…Is what 50 will do to Wayne.”

His tweet came in response to a clip from a recent episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, during which co-host Eddie Francis said that Ebro claimed 50 would “wash” Wayne in a song-for-song battle.

Young Guru — best known as JAY-Z’s longtime engineer — took to his Instagram Stories on Friday (March 24) to weigh in on the debate, writing: “Y’all are crazy. Wayne would wash 50. Period.”

The outcome of a potential 50 Cent-Lil Wayne Verzuz battle was hotly debated on Rap Life Review, with Eddie Francis disagreeing with Ebro that the G-Unit general would overpower the Cash Money Millionaire.

“I seen that and I was like, ‘What?!’ In what world?’” he said. “I’m not even here to say 50 could beat Lil Wayne, but to say that 50 would wash Lil Wayne? In no dimension, in no world, in no — just no! That would not happen.”

Lowkey also wasn’t quite in agreement with Ebro that 50 Cent would “wash” Lil Wayne, but claimed that Weezy would struggle to compete with Fif in the Verzuz ring if his setlist wasn’t airtight.

“Wayne don’t have a Get Rich or Die Tryin,‘” Low said. “We’re talking about a Verzuz battle, right? We’re not talking about what we like. We’re not talking about what we grew up on. We’re not talking about what we listen to when we’re in the kitchen cooking or driving down whatever highway in L.A. that you drive down.

“We’re talking about in a crowd. We’re talking about 50 Cent. This man is a mainstream monster; Wayne is a cultural mainstream monster. But when we talk about these hits? When we talk about these bodies of work? When we talk about these smashes?”

He continued: “I ain’t saying 50’s gonna wash Wayne, but if Wayne is not sequenced right and is not positioned correctly, that could be a very long fucking night for Dwayne Carter.”

The debate also made it to The Breakfast Club on Thursday (March 23), where DJ Envy said he agreed with Ebro’s 50 Cent versus Lil Wayne take, but acknowledged it would be a close match-up.

“He is right: Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is a classic album, but you can’t sit there and act like Wayne don’t have classic bodies of work and classic records,” Envy said. “It wouldn’t be a wash at all.”

Despite the fervent chatter, fans would be wise not to hold their breath to see 50 Cent step into the Verzuz arena. During a red carpet interview at the premiere of his Starz series Power Book III: Raising Kanan in 2021, the Queens, New York native dismissed the prospect of him participating in the popular battle series.

“A Verzuz battle?” he pondered. “Probably not! We back outside,” he laughed.

“That was something that happened during the pandemic when we was stuck in the house. Now that we back outside, there’s other things to do. We supposed to be creating new history, not being back there.”
