Lil Uzi Vert has opened up about the origins of their viral “Just Wanna Rock” dance that has seemingly swept the globe with their swaying hips.

HipHopDX recently caught up with the eccentric rapper on the red carpet for the BET Hip Hop Awards where they revealed the dance started out in the streets of Philly.

“I’m from Philly, it’s called blicking. I ain’t even make it up. It’s all these kids in Philly that do it. In Jersey, it’s called rocking your hips,” they explained.

“All my lil’ boys out in Philly they taught me how to do it and all that. I just wanted to be a part of the Philly scene because you know that’s where I’m from. Bring it to the world and the world love it.”

Although, Lil Uzi Vert said they didn’t foresee the 2022 track blowing up to become the hit record that it did. “Just Wanna Rock” arrived in October of last year and is now certified 2x-platinum by the RIAA. The tune reached No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The 27-year-old also told 032c magazine in June that “Just Wanna Rock” is technically “unfinished.”

“Yeah, I make experimental music,” Uzi admitted. “That song is definitely unfinished. The end of the beat is messed up too.”

“People forgot I was a dancer before I was a rapper. I didn’t make any of this up, that’s how cool kids from Philly and Jersey dance – so I’m only a product of my environment. I’m just shining a light on that culture.”

Beyoncé even tapped in and took note of Uzi’s moves as she incorporated her own rendition of the “Just Wanna Rock” dance into the choreography of her Renaissance Tour.

The Generation Now rapper will be bringing their dance moves on the road when they trek across the U.S. in support of the Pink Tape project as the 17-date tour will kick off in Minneapolis on October 21.
