Lil Reese has been released from a Houston-area prison where he’s been held for the last seven months stemming from an assault case, HipHopDX has confirmed.

According to the Harris County Sherriff’s Office’s online records, the Chicago rapper (real name Tavares Taylor) was released on Thursday (January 12) following a pre-trial hearing the day before that saw at least one of the charges against him dismissed.

As previously reported, Lil Reese was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault against a family member in May 2022. However, Harris County Jail records indicate that he was eventually charged with an additional misdemeanor and two felonies, though the documents did not detail the specific charges.

One case presented against Reese also appears to have been closed out with a “GPE sentence” — indicating that the rapper has been ordered to make some type of payment through Government Payment EXP, a private company that collects fines and court fees by phone and online. These payments could be fines connected to his arrest, or payments included in the terms of his release under probation

HipHopDX has reached out to the Harris County Sherriff’s Office for additional details about Lil Reese’s case.

At press time, the Demon Time rapper had not made any indication of his release via social media, where he has been notably absent since announcing the birth of his daughter, Kairi Harley, on May 16, 2022.

On January 6, Lil Reese’s 20th birthday, a post appeared on the infant’s Instagram page that featured multiple screenshots of his Facetime conversations with the little girl, with the simple caption: “Happy birthday daddy @reesemoney300 [heart emoji] I love you [wink and kiss emoji].

The page is managed by Kairi’s mother, Reese’s girlfriend Kimani. She has not addressed his arrest that happened just days after the birth of their child, outside of a series of tweets confronting a media outlet that suggested Lil Reese was being held in connection to charges of sexual assault.

A year prior to this most recent arrest, Lil Reese was arrested on domestic violence charges in Chicago.
