Lil Keed‘s cause of death has officially been determined by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner’s Office eights month after he died.
Released on Tuesday (January 3), the office stated that the YSL rapper died from natural causes due to eosinophilia, which is defined “a higher than normal level of eosinophils.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Eosinophils are a type of disease-fighting white blood cell. This condition most often indicates a parasitic infection, an allergic reaction or cancer.”
The news comes a few weeks after Keed’s mother issued a statement regarding her son’s death amid all the rumors and speculation about what really happened to the rapper. In a post shared on her Instagram last month, Michelle Woods confirmed that her son died from natural causes, and that no drugs or alcohol were found in his system.

“7 months after learning about the passing of my son, I’ve received his official cause of death from the doctors. In grieving my son’s death, myself and the rest of the family were caused a lot of pain by the lies and rumors spread on the blogs and the internet with false information about Raqhid’s passing,” Woods wrote. “Today, we’ve confirmed that Raqhid died from natural causes with no drugs or alcohol found in his system.”
She continued: “I’m still grieving and I’m still mourning from what our family has had to go through the last 7 months and I refuse to let the lies go any further. I’m glad that the truth is finally out and I ask that everyone please be respectful of his family and his legacy. Long Live Keed.”

Initial reports following his death stated Lil Keed’s cause of death was organ failure. Sources close to the YSL rapper told TMZ that Keed was experiencing severe stomach pain just days before his death and sought medical treatment at a Los Angeles hospital.
Although Keed had struggled with drugs and alcohol for years, he was said to be clean and sober in the months leading up to his death. But despite that, sources said his liver and kidneys started shutting down, which they believed led to his passing at the young age of 24.
Lil Keed’s death was first reported by his cousin and fellow rapper LilGotit. In the midst of all the news, Lil Keed’s label, 300 Entertainment, released a statement about the rapper’s untimely death.
“Lil Keed was not only an incredible talent but a devoted father, brother, and son,” the statement read. “We are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss as Keed’s courage, humor, and dedication to his family and craft will be unexplainably missed.
