Lil’ Flip’s been targeted by many.
First, critics slammed him for lines like “I treat you like milk. I’ll
do nothing but spoil you.” Then Tip got out of
prison and went to war with The Leprechaun. But along the way,
Flipper found time to make a new album.
The LP was close to seeing the light of day when moreobstacles
were thrown in Flip’s direction. Recently, he spoke out, stating
that his former label, Sony betrayed him. This
caused the Houston
representative to make a jump to Asylum Records.
So, what lead to the jump? According to him, it seems Sony
was responsible for his album leaking.
“All I know is my copy is watermarked, I didn’t
leak it and the only other people that have it is Sony…The
point of taking the masters was so we could release the album exactly how it
was. Now we have to regroup,” he said to Billboard about his
ex-label.
Flip went on to state that he feels he was
never fully backed by the label.
“Everybody wanted to sign me and I had fans…With
that type of ammunition, Sony was able to take
me to platinum with barely any promotion. I had two videos and went over
platinum. Most rappers need three to four videos to go platinum. Imagine if
someone was really behind me. At this point in my career I can’t settle for
part of a promotional campaign, and Sony would not give me 100%.”
The deals are not over. Flip
is also in talks to put on his Clover G label.
For now, his focus is on regrouping, and prepping I Need Mine for a
2007 release.
