Country star Morgan Wallen was labeled a racist after he was caught on tape using the n-word. But Lil Durk decided to ignore that notion and team up with Wallen on the 2021 single “Broadway Girls.”
Now, Durk is urging other rappers to give Wallen a chance. On Tuesday (January 4), TMZ caught up with The Voice artist and blatantly asked if he considered the Billboard chart-topping country singer a racist.
“Nah, he ain’t no racist,” he replied. “That’s my boy, you know? So we had a long talk — he had his public situation, we had [a talk] behind closed doors, and I’ll vouch for him and he good. … He ain’t canceled.” When asked if Kendrick Lamar should collaborate with Wallan, Durk said, “For sure. For sure.”
Last month, Morgan Wallen spoke with comedian Druski on Clubhouse and owned up to his mistakes, while discussing his love of Hip Hop and relationship with Lil Durk.
“I do love Moneybagg [Yo],” Wallen said. “He’s definitely at the top of the list. … But, like overall, ever…I’m trying to think of not just in the past little bit…Kendrick Lamar would be pretty cool.”
As for “Broadway Girls,” Wallen explained, “That song kind of came about over this summer, and I was really, really, really pumped on it. Durk commented on my Instagram. … So I hit him up. Me and him had been talking a little bit throughout the year and kind of developed a friendship.”
Wallen was at the center of controversy in February 2021 after a video of himself yelling the “n-word” and other profanities outside a Nashville residence went viral. Wallen was immediately dropped from his deal with Republic Records subsidiary Big Loud Records and ultimately released an apology.
“I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back,” Wallen wrote in a statement at the time. “There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
If the “Culture” allow white people into the “Culture”, the “Culture” should allow whites to use the N-word
The culture didn’t allow Europeans most cultures don’t bc death usually follows wherever Europeans go.. They infuriated just like they’ve infuriated every culture since they left the caves. They force or sneak their way onto ppls land and into cultures water it down and destroy it.
Dr. Dre, whom some say is the father of Hip Hop, introduced the world to Emimnem. So are you saying Dr. Dre is a sell out for signing Emimnem, and bring him into the “Culture”?
for bringing him into the “Culture”?
Yes. Definitely an industry plant let in by gatekeeper Dre. Ironic that he of nwa fame would usher in the top selling artist of the genre and he’s a white dude.
Growing up in the hood, music and all my African American friends use the n-word with an “A”, in the same fashion as saying dude, bro, homie..etc… but once I left the hood and realized people didn’t know I grew up like with a bunch of people who accepted my use of the word. I had to refrain from using that word because I realized, even though I didn’t mean it as a negative word, I found that it can be offensive to people to who A) don’t know me, or my up bringing B) didn’t grow up with me and C) don’t know in which matter I was intending to use it.
So your white. Don’t be saying it cause you just sound and look dumb. Even around your homies. Who are prob white. And you didn’t grow up in the hood. Pansy
Lol, too funny and no I’m not white. I’m not offended by your comments, because your entitled to your opinion. And I was never one of those people trying to be or act hood. I just so happened to grow up there and that’s the word that was used… I was called that word and it was never in a way that was offensive but as I got older and no longer growing up there I ran into more and more people like you who didn’t know me and once they got to know me they knew I was okay to use that word because it was never said in a way that was meant to be harmful and was always in a term of endearment.
For how long has that word been used to describe the male gender by multiple races ? Its like the urban equivalent to the word “dude”. Women do the same thing with the word bitch. Its time too let the old meaning of that word go. Most of people who still that word as a slur are either too old or too out in the country to be a threat to anyone. When you ignore color, there is plenty of money to be made. All races are starting to realize this.
I don’t use the word, and I don’t understand why black people call each other that word, but get mad at white people for using it. There is nothing endearing about it.
Not gonna comment on the n-word controversy, we all know it’s not acceptable. Get over it. But do we really need another hip hop/country collaboration? That’s the real tragedy here.
