Lil Durk Recalls Being Lost & Without Guidance

When asked, during an interview with Hot 97, if there was an alternate path he could have taken with his life and avoided the streets, Lil Durk revealed that he was so without guidance that he’s not sure what that route could have been.

During the interview, which came shortly after the release of his most recent studio album, Remember My Name, the Chicago rapper revealed that he “couldn’t stay out the streets” and was unable to work a 9-to-5 due to the lure of the streets.

“I was lost. I didn’t have no guidance. None of that,” Lil Durk said. “School, I wasn’t doing none of that. Everybody was lost. Everybody was broke…I used to look at it like—I used to look at people like ‘How you gonna tell me something when you doing the same shit that I’m doing? We got the same amount of money in our pocket’…I couldn’t stay out the streets. I’d be at work like ‘I gotta hurry up and get to the block’…I ain’t have no guidance, so it was kinda ugly. So, I can’t even tell you which route I would’ve took.”

Durk was also asked about fellow Chicago artists, Chief Keef and Lil Reese. He stated that they’re all “family,” but went on to explain that a lot of artists from his city have gotten too comfortable with where they’re at in their careers.

“Everybody family. Everybody working,” he said. “But then some people just comfortable right now where they at and they don’t really supposed to be comfortable. You still gotta get that hunger. You gotta still be hungry. Niggas don’t even drop tapes no more. They just think they can drop a song and just think that’s it. They too comfortable right now. A lot of artists in Chicago…We ain’t comfortable right now. It’s still groundwork.”
