In his post, the 7220 rapper shared photos from his recent “Dinner with Durk” event at Gibson’s steakhouse in Chicago. The dinner was organized through Durk’s non-profit Neighborhood Heroes Foundation and saw 30 high school students dine with five mayoral candidates to give the city’s youth a chance to speak on bettering their communities.
In one of the pictures, Durk is seen chatting up with Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who was one of the many guests who attended the event.
“If I haven’t been picking up my phone I been busy being a neighborhood hero! #PaveTheWay,” Durk wrote in the caption of his post.
One of the students who was at the event spoke with WGN News about the importance of such an event and the mayoral election that’s coming up on February 28.
“Tonight is an opportunity for us to express what goes on in our neighborhood and what we want to see change,” the student said. “[The election] is an important thing that determines our future and the future of our communities as well.”

Another high schooler added: “I want to see what they’re going to do to keep our kids out of jail and off the streets. We got bigger things to do.”
Lil Durk’s foundation aims to make positive changes in under-resourced areas. Last May, the organization partnered with the non-profit Chicago Votes to supply Illinois inmates and correctional facility workers with 29,000 bottles of hand sanitizer. The initiative went up against the prison system’s lack of access to clean water amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The OTF rapper also launched an HBCU college program through his Neighborhood Heroes Foundation last year, where he introduced students to different kinds of career paths.
