If he’s not already there, Lil Durk is becoming one of the biggest stars in this current generation of rappers. With all that success comes opportunities to help those in need, and Durkio isn’t wasting time getting things done for his home state of Illinois.
On Tuesday (May 17), Lil Durk’s organization, Neighborhood Heroes Foundation, announced they partnered up with non-profit Chicago Votes to supply the Illinois Department of Correction inmates and correctional facility workers with 29,000 bottles of hand sanitizer. The initiative intends to combat the prison system’s lack of access to clean water amid the Covid-19 virus.
“It’s obvious, those locked up or working at a correctional facility are going to be at a higher risk of exposure to COVID-19,” Durk said in a statement. “At the end of the day, this disease ain’t to be played with, and everyone should have the basic hygiene necessities to help prevent catching this virus. It only made sense for my foundation (Neighborhood Heroes) to collaborate with Chicago Votes and IDOC.”

According to news reports, the conditions inside some of Illinois’ largest prisons have severely deteriorated. In 2021, a group of activists sent over 62,000 bottles of H20 to inmates who had repeatedly voiced their concerns over the terrible water conditions.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the IDOC and the Illinois Department of Public Health issued a press release in March stating the Legionella bacteria had been found in the water at Stateville Correctional Center and Joliet Treatment Center.
