Lil Dicky Explains Inspiration From Drake’s Music

Breaking down the influence modern rappers have had on his music since he picked up the mic, Lil Dicky recently opened up about finding inspiration from Drake’s catalog specifically.

Speaking with HipHopDX’s Jake Rohn, Lil Dicky commented on Drake’s recent progression and why he thinks the Toronto artist will soon eclipse a more traditional choice as his favorite rapper ever.

“My favorite rapper ever is Jay Z,” Lil Dicky said in a clip that debuted as a part of today’s DX Daily. “But my favorite present-day rapper and who I ultimately assume will become my favorite rapper when it’s all said and done is Drake. I just respect Jay Z’s catalog far more than Drake’s at this point but when Drake is at his best he is my favorite. If he just continues to make stuff I imagine his catalog will get better and better. As far as influences, my favorite rappers are pretty much who I’m inspired by…I put this rapper hat on like two years ago, so I’m just really going off of me being a fan. I assume who I’ve become as a rapper is greatly influenced by a lot of modern-day rappers. I assume Drake had had a large impact.”

    1. everyone loves drake. i know the haters got a burning feeling that drake keeps getting praise from everybody.

    2. Need more shows like they had back in the day where the dj’s and vj’s would call out corny artists like this. Charlemagne the God is probably the closest to that but he went real tame after their ratings went up.

    3. From Stevie Wonder, to Ghostface Killah, to Kanye West, to DJ Premier, Drake keeps getting praise. When legends who have crafted classics of their own are praising your songwriting and rap skills, that’s when you know you are legendary. When up and coming artists are calling your work an inspiration and are saying you will be the best ever, that’s when you know you’re a legend. When you keep obliterating music records and when your label dominates the charts with your own in-house tracks and tracks you are producing or writing for others, that’s when you are a legend.

Drake and OVO Sound are legendary. This dude ain’t even 30 and the music industry would basically cease to exist without him. Battle rap is taking off again because of Drake and 40’s commitment to preserving hip-hop culture. OVO is just getting started ladies and gentlemen. The future of music is brighter than it has ever been due to OVO Sound.

You like songs from Kendrick, Schoolboy Q, Eminem, Bun B etc?

They may have been produced by OVO Sound…Blacker The Berry sounds real good, doesn’t it?

      You like battle rap events?

They may have been brought to you by OVO Sound

You like songs by R &B artists like Alicia Keys?

They may have been written by Drake and 40

OVO Sound is the modern day Motown.

      1. Exactly what I’ve been saying. Drake is the realest, he makes life music, if you don’t like his music maybe you need to re-examine your life or end it.

    4. lil Dicky is the ultimate name fail outsider. You namedropping popular rappers as inspiration are the ingredients to call you a culture vulture so go headbutt a steakknife poser
