Lil Boosie Attends Angola State Prison Rodeo

A photo of Lil Boosie at the Angola State Prison Annual Rodeo has been posted online.

Lil Boosie is housed at The Louisiana State Penitentiary, which is also known as Angola. In 2011, Boosie was sentenced to eight years in state prison after pleading guilty to drug charges, stemming from an attempt to smuggle codeine, ecstasy and marijuana into jail.

In 2012, Boosie was found not guilty of a first-degree murder. He has also completed a GED program in prison.

In September, Lil Boosie’s attorneys said that he would be released from prison within five months.

Last week, Young Buck sent out a tweet in support of Lil Boosie.

The Fall Angola Rodeo takes place every Sunday in October, according to angolarodeo.com. Thus, the image of Lil Boosie was likely taken during the October 6 edition of the rodeo.

The Angola Rodeo, the longest-running prison rodeo in the nation, got its start in 1965, as per angolamuseum.org. In 1967 the rodeo was opened to the public on a limited basis, the site says. The success of the 1967 and 1968 rodeos led to the construction of a 4,500-seat arena for the 1969 rodeo, according to angolamuseum.org. In 1972, the official Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rules were adopted and the rodeo became permanent, as per the site.

Now an all-day event that also features an arts and crafts festival, The Angola Rodeo opens with its arts and crafts festival at 9 a.m. and continues throughout the rodeo, which begins at 2 p.m..

“The Angola Prison Rodeo is a professionally produced rodeo,” angolamuseum.org says. “Angola contracts with professional rodeo stock contractors to provide the rodeo stock used in events; professional judges are contracted with to objectively judge each event. In addition, to ensure inmate participant safety, professional rodeo clowns are always present in the arena during events. A full complement of emergency services personnel are on-site to provide medical assistance to inmates and spectators.”

Proceeds from the Angola Prison Rodeo cover rodeo expenses and supplement the Louisiana State Penitentiary Inmate Welfare Fund, which provides educational and recreational supplies for inmates, the site says.
