L.A. Reid Named Chairman And CEO Of Epic Records

L.A. Reid has officially been named chairman and chief executive of Epic Records.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the report came courtesy of Doug Morris, CEO of Sony Music Entertainment.

“L.A. repeatedly has proven over the course of his celebrated career that he knows how to develop world-class artistry,” said Morris in a statement. “We are very happy to have an executive of his talents leading Epic Records as we begin an exciting new chapter of growth for Sony Music Entertainment.”

As previously reported, Reid was a judge on Simon Cowell’s American version of “The X Factor,” prior to which he served as the chairman of Island Def Jam.

“I look forward with great enthusiasm to joining the Sony Music family, as it affords us the opportunity to build Epic Recordings as the revolutionary music company of tomorrow.  We are deeply committed to discovering and developing the next generation of superstars as well as implementing a fresh and innovative business model,” Reid said in his issued statement. “It is also my distinct pleasure to be once again joining Doug, who is an amazing leader and the most visionary and forward-thinking executive in the music entertainment industry.”

Reid was responsible in part for the development of Mariah Carey, Usher, OutKast, Kanye West and a great number of other artists.

Maybe I’m trippin’…but I recall his tenure at Def Jam being utter sh** truthfully when viewed thru clean glasses. Who did he actually develop at Def Jam and what did he ultimately accomplish? He hasn’t done anything since he was doing the LaFace demo.

Well…guess it’s always a job in the entertainment business when you fail and haven’t had tremendous success consistently; especially when you sign a nigga to a million dollar deal (allegedly with the artist who was Shyne Po) that is beyond himself and is terrible.

Kudos to Epic records. (shaking my head in sarcasm)

    2. how does this guy keep getting jobs. he just bankrupted def jam. sure under his tenure he has had a hand with credible artist during his career. however la reid is known for over spending. and he doesn’t know shit about promoting rap artists. i could make a better ceo then la reid…..

      1. dude made a rap label into an r&b label n made all of the rappers put out r&b-esque singles…these dudes can fuck up a company and then move on to the next one on some musical chairs shit

    3. When you’re bending over and taking the pipe, these are the type of jobs that come your way. L.A. is the rumored mogul that was spoken about a few years ago that is on the DL…most people thought it was Diddy.

    4. word up yall, this oreo ass nigga suck….Sony goin down now too since they hired this nigga

    5. dudes one of the many dl homosexuals in the industry….but isn’t he responsible for putting def jam in the hole theyre in now??? n he gets another exec job?? wutever epic is half a label anyways

    6. what does a chairman really do anyways? sit in an office and drink with big shots?

      i’d rather be a couchman

    7. DON’T TAKE ME LIGHTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the comments I see that L.A. Reid is not entirely liked! It all comes back to the coach and player philosophy. They say you can have the best coach in the world, but if you don’t have the fit players you can’t win. WHY EVEN PLAY? I’ll tell you why . . . you play not to loose. Despite not having the best program. I’m not on here to knock L.A. Reid, he just the coach. I’m here to tell him and the organization he lead that with the right player in the right position winning won’t be as difficult (LOOK AT PHIL JACKSON AND THE BULLS). I am KILLABEE, (ya’ll can)check my resume! My music on facebook, myspace, and explore talent. I am that player. Lets face it, people come to see us (bra)!!!!!!!!
