Kirko Bangz has confused fans after trying to shed some light on the true meaning behind his fan-favorite song, “Drank in My Cup.”
On Friday (July 28), the rapper appeared on The Showcase Tour podcast where he broke down the lyrics to his 2012 smash hit, but his explanation of what they mean left host Andrew Corapi and viewers alike scratching their heads.

“When people be sippin’ and drankin’, drinking or whatever, they always want to play ‘Drank in My Cup.’ I get it. But, that song is not about drank at all,” Kirko Bangz revealed.
“Have you all really even listened to the song — like really listened to the song?” he continued as Corapi jokingly recited the lyrics over Bangz’s line of questioning. “What’s the song about? What’s the song about though?” the Houston native continued.
“It’s crazy because you really think like you gotta think about it,” he continued as the host struggled to provide an explanation. “The song is about being the other guy for a woman,” he revealed. “I only say ‘drank in my cup,’ twice in the song. I say the whole hook — you want somebody all this type of shit and then I say I’ve got this drink in my cup.”
As for the lyrics in question, Kirko Bangz raps: “Just hit up my phone whenever you need you some company/ Got this drank in my cup/ Oh yeah, I got this drank in my cup/ I got this drank in my cup, cup, cup/ I done came down, came up, slow pitch, change up/ Same hood, same style, same drink, same cup/ She call me when she wanna fuck/ I never call, she knows what’s up”
“I only said it twice. It’s not about drank at all,” he concluded.
Needless to say, many fans didn’t buy the explanation and were quick to chime in with a variety of colorful commentary on social media. “It ain’t this deep lol song is literally called drank in my cup. Say ya peace and interview over [laughing emoji],” wrote one fan poking fun at Bangz below a clip of the interview shared via 2cool2bl0g.
“When n-ggas ask the same thing over n over again, he tryna think of an explanation to give lmao,” added another fan. While others spied great marketing efforts on Bangz part. “Lol no explanation, streams bout to sky rocket I see what y’all doin [thinking emoji],” commented another.

Whether or not you’re on board with the song’s core message, the 33-year-old once shared with HipHopDX, what he prefers to have in his infamous cup.
“I’m a Hennessy man,” he admitted. “I definitely don’t walk around drinking purple all day because if I did I wouldn’t be able to do anything else at all. [Laughs] That stuff can be very addictive and I’m definitely not trying to go that route. I have a lot of work to do, so I really don’t drink that often.”
