Kim Kardashian Claims Kanye West Wasn’t Defending R. Kelly & Michael Jackson At “Sunday Service”

Kanye West can’t seem to avoid controversy. His wife, Kim Kardashian-West, is doing some damage control after the polarizing artist caused a stir with comments made at the January 13 edition of his “Sunday Service” series.

A clip of Kanye speaking at the event surfaced online via an Instagram livestream. Yeezy’s words are being interpreted as a defense of R. Kelly and Michael Jackson due to him referencing documentaries.

Kelly has been under fire since Lifetime aired its Surviving R. Kelly docu-series, which explored the many allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct against him. Meanwhile, past allegations of Jackson sexually abusing children have recently resurfaced due to a new documentary making its debut at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.

In his speech, Kanye seemingly framed the conversation around separating the art from the artist.

“Everybody, they want the art from the artist, but anytime they do anything erratic, they just gonna pull up full documentaries on ’em,” he said. “And then they gonna come with the Michael [Jackson] documentary … We can enjoy all their music all we want. I thought I wasn’t going to go there today but uh … If we gon’ tear down artists, let’s go ahead and take [Leonardo] da Vinci out the Louvre while we at it. Let’s take down all the art.”

As the outrage began to emerge, Kardashian-West stepped in and tried to clarify her husband’s remarks on Monday (January 14).

“I’m going to nip this in the bud right now,” she wrote via Twitter. “Kanye was speaking about his own experience of everyone quick to say they are cancelling him because of differences in opinion & not being perfect. The analogies were in context to his own experiences, not defending anyone else.”

A little over an hour later, the reality TV star reiterated that Kanye wasn’t defending the alleged actions of Kelly and Jackson. She also believes he was taken out of context.

“I want to make it very clear, he is not condoning anyone’s actions or unacceptable disgusting behavior,” she added. “My husband’s words are being taken out of context due to timing.”

    1. i know its unrelated but didnt her father help get OJ off a murder everyone knows he was guilty of?

      1. Everyone knows he was guilty of? I thought he was found not guilty and acquitted of all charges. How strange.

            1. Yo, I didn’t want to get involved in this ignorant bolognese BUT WE ALL KNOW HE DID IT!
Nobody even pretends anymore, like everybody gave up.

    2. I dont want to listen to a sexual predators music BUT no one has a right to stop me from listening to anything I damn well please accept my moms! Especially when it is completely separate from actions one took. DAMN

    3. You can never erase the experience you had in the clubs and at home late nite Saturday fucking to Kelly’s music. Let the courts decide his character outside of being an artist.

    4. Yea I call bs he’s from Chicago he knows everyone is talking about R.Kelly and the documentary. So either A) he was referring to the R.Kelly situation when he was talking B) he knows people are talking about it and wanted to intentionally say something that sounds like he was talking about R.Kelly just to drumb up press.

      1. From Wiki: “Florentine court records of 1476 show that Leonardo and three other young men were charged with sodomy but acquitted; homosexual acts were illegal in Renaissance Florence.”

    5. What happened to innocent until proven gulity? i guess you guys voted Trump in and it all went downhill from there.
but heres me thinking MJ had his day in court and was innocent (i believe he was anyway) why they attacking him?
