While at South By Southwest, Kendrick Lamar was asked about the current objectives of Black Hippy and the group’s TDE collective. Fresh off of his own gold-certified release, good kid, m.A.A.d city, Kendrick pointed attention on his band-mate. “Right now, we’re really focusing on ScHoolboy Q; his album’s coming out,” Lamar said of what is believed to be Q’s first major label-backed album after independent success of #Setbacks and Habits & Contradictions.
Kendrick continued that the other members of the four-person collective will release solo projects, following ScHoolboy, and before Black Hippy is considered. “Ab-Soul and Jay Rock [are next],” he revealed. “[Black Hippy] is a lil’ further back than expected ’cause there’s just so much goin’ on with the individual acts. Right now it’s about ScHoolboy Q, then we’ll probably work on figurin’ out when we’ll do Black Hippy.”
As recently as last September, multiple members of the group had dismissed reports that Black Hippy would ever record an album.
