Kendrick Lamar Doesn’t Want To Rush Next Album, Talks “good kid, m.A.A.d. city” Artwork

After releasing good kid, m.A.A.d. city, Kendrick Lamar has been fielding questions about the follow-up. However, he’s in no rush to discuss any new material as of yet. Instead, Kendrick is focusing his energy on promoting his latest effort. In a recent interview with RWD TV, the good kid explained why he’s taking his time with the next album and he also discussed m.A.A.d. city’s artwork.

Regarding the artwork, Lamar shared the thought process behind picking the photographs that were used.

“[In the cover,] I blacked out all of the eyes, my uncles’ eyes, to show the innocence of a kid. No matter what he’s surrounded by, he still has that innocence, that presence of wanting to figure out the world and be himself,” he explained. “It represents everything about the album. I had this for awhile. I knew this would be my first album cover.

“The artwork is really about sharing the moments inside the album that makes the connection. I’m used to albums having the total package like that…I really wanted something to define the music, to stick with the music.”

When asked about his plans for his next release, K. Dot said that he wants to let this one sit for awhile before going into his next project.

“I like to let things breathe,” he shared. “A lot of times the music gets oversaturated and the people get tired of seeing your face. So you have to keep reinventing and know that timing is everything. I won’t keep hitting them over the head. Y’all gon’ live and sit with this for a second and really appreciate it.”

    1. “The Dr.Dre Theory for Longevity”… Got to admit Dre has this kid saying the right things in his interviews.#MissionComplete

    2. Kendrick is extremely focused and aware. He really does seem wise beyond his years. I have really learned to appreciate this album the more I hear it. I too grew up in the hood in California and it’s easy to get sucked into that world and become like the rest. Good looking out k.dot.

    3. KENDRICK BETTER DROP AGAIN NEXT YEAR…NEW ARTIST AND NEW TIMES….GET IT WHILE U CAN ….EVEN IF ITS A EP….KANYE JAY AN THE GREAT EMCEES DONT TAKE FOREVER….DONT LET DRE FUCK U OFF AND KILL UR MOMENTUM…..DR DRE COULD NEVER GET AWAY WIH WHAT HE DID BACK IN THE DAY…PEOPLE DONT BUY RECORDS LIKE THAT…AND RECORD SALES WILL SHRINK EVEN MORE I THE URBAN FORMAT

      1. his point exactly, I think music as a whole would be better off without microwaved brained maniacs like yourself around, you guys are like gremlins man you just want entertainment so you can chew it up & spit it out and on to the next one! Artist cant develop trying to cater to dudes like you…

    4. I’m not expecting another Kendrick album until 2014.
We are probs gonna hear that J. Cole Collab sometime next year + a whole lot of Black Hippy Shit.

    5. good kid m.A.A.d city is my favorite album right now, and Kendrick is my favorite rapper. But I’m still trying to put together the pieces, like why he secretly put 2 A’s in his album title. I think it stands for Alcoholics Anonymous because in Swimming Pools, Kendrick talks about his severe alcohol addiction. I’m glad he overcame that but I don’t like how he promotes weed through his High Power movement. The High Power movement might have been relevant in the 70’s but it’s not going to legalize marijuana anytime soon, and he shouldn’t promote smoking and getting high to the young generation of today. Aside from all of that, this album is a much better improvement over his last Control System album.

      1. are you fucking kidding me you really dont know waht MAAD stands?? go take another deep listen to the album, and the end of the song maad city

      2. Oh whats up Eye Control, who you trolling now? I start seeing you on slaughterhouse related posts and now you’re trying to do it on kendrick lamar posts?

      3. He’s been trolling Kendrick pages for awhile. Usually refers to Control System as Kendrick’s album, and different ppl fall for it every time.

    6. You’re rite times have changed and thats why we’ll neva get DETOX bcuz Dre doesnt want to promote it. That’s why the recipe video neva surface bcuz Dre didnt like the way he came off, he’ll be 48 n he really didnt want to do 2001 bcuz he felt he was too old.
