Kendrick Lamar has broken yet another chart record with his mega hit and SZA collaboration “Luther”.
The GNX standout is now the longest running number one in the history of the Hot Rap Songs chart which has existed since 1989.
“Luther” has now spent 27 weeks at the top of the chart, passing Lamar’s own record after “Not Like Us” spent 26 weeks at the summit last year.
The song also spent 13 consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
GNX has also been the number one rap album in the US for a record breaking 22 weeks, highlighting the longevity of the project.
The previous record holder was Pop Smoke for his posthumous album Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon which held on to the number one spot for 21 weeks.
Lamar and SZA can also boast about having the highest grossing co-headlining tour of all time.
As the North American leg of the Grand National tour nears a close, the two TDE heavyweights have been a huge success on the road.
Through just 23 shows across America and Canada, Kendrick and SZA have grossed more than $256 million.
The duo’s average gross per show has been $11.1 million and they have sold a total of 1.1 million tickets across the record breaking run.
The average concert on the tour has been attended by 48,000 fans.
SZA gave Kendrick Lamar his flowers on the latest stop of their Grand National tour in Maryland.
During the portion of the concert where both stars are on stage, SZA reflected on how valuable her former TDE labelmate has been to her career so far.
Getting emotional, SZA said: “He put me onto the biggest moment of my life. This is also the biggest moment of my life… I’m so thankful, and I’m so thankful to y’all.”
The two “Luther” collaborators then shared a close hug before continuing to perform.
SZA previously revealed she had doubts over the co-headlining tour with the rap superstar.
Sitting down for a chat with Chappell Roan for Interview Magazine, SZA has confessed to suffering from anxiety.
She said: “Every time I had to go on stage, every time I had to get on a carpet, I’d have full-on panic attacks. I used to not show up to something because it was like, ‘I’m never going to win. No one cares that I’m here. Why would I go?’”
The TDE singer said those issues spilled over into her tour with Kendrick: “Same thing with the Kendrick tour. Everybody’s going to see Kendrick. I don’t even know if I have anything to show these people that’s exciting and new.”
My streak of riding Drake’s dick has gone on since 2009. Where’s my Guinness World Record Award for that.
