Kendrick Lamar says that he will only apologize to one person he named in his verse on Big Sean’s “Control.”
“I still gotta speak my peace to Phil,” Kendrick Lamar says during an interview with Vibe, referring to New York Knicks president Phil Jackson. “It’s a beautiful thing, first of all. Second of all, I have to go back and say how big of a fan I was, and still am, of Phil. [I’ve been a fan of his] since the Bulls and Lakers, so for him to actually acknowledge me in the light of music was something unexpected. I thought it was dope. But I don’t want to be on Phil’s bad side, so he’s the only person I will apologize to (both laugh) about the line.”
On “Control,” Kendrick Lamar rapped, “Phil Jackson came back, still no coaching me. I’m uncoachable.”
Jackson coached both the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers.
In August 2013, Jackson responded to Lamar on Twitter. A screen shot of the tweet is as follows:
When “Control” was released in August 2013, Kendrick Lamar drew attention by naming several rappers in his verse.
“I’m usually homeboys with the same niggas I’m rhymin’ with,” Kendrick Lamar raps on the song. “But this is Hip Hop and them niggas should know what time it is. That goes for Jermaine Cole, Big K.R.I.T., Wale, Pusha T, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electron[ica], Tyler[, the Creator], Mac Miller. I got love for you all but I’m tryin’ to murder you niggas. Trying to make sure your core fans never heard of you niggas [and that] they don’t want to hear not one more noun or verb from you niggas. What is competition? I’m trying to raise the bar high.”
Elsewhere in the Vibe interview, Kendrick Lamar named artists who are not rappers he would like to work with.
“I always wanted to work with Sade,” he says. “I know [Sade] is the group, but I always wanted to work with her. She has a very, very nice voice. Since day one, Anita Baker and Patti LaBelle, too. Those are the only people I can think of straight off the top of the head.”

Welcome to 2014 where rappers are apologising for punchlines.
Welcome to 2014 where white think their opinions matter in hip hop
I’m black
FAIL
Welcome to 2014 where black sold out their culture and blame white for it
shit is tongue-in-cheek
2014 where geeks who barely went platinum think they run rap.
Did you just described yourself?
where’s your platinum album?
^seriously did this jackass use that weak ass comeback? you aint even drop a plat album to ask him that
Everyone with a bit of common sense knows that sales doesn’t mean shit. Sales only means shit to record labels. Cos their the ones that make money off albums. As a listener I couldn’t care less if a album only sold a 1000 copies. If its dope I’ll bump it. Some of the dopest classic albums in hip hop never sold that much.Even the wackest rapper in the world can sell tons if the marketings right. Running rap and running record sales are two different things. Personally I think jay z and nas run rap. They’ve already got their place in the history of hip hop. They’ve got albums from 20 years ago that people “still” talk about(Albums that are 20 years old and still better than 95% of new albums out now),and their still in the game making quality music. Kendricks dope (he’s got that 90’s dope flava) but too new in the game to run rap. He needs to get his rap catalogue up and maintain.
The chipmunk is afraid of a 60 year old man lol
You’re the only chipmunk here and no one’s afraid of anyone.
Then why apologize? Face it. Your hero is 100% bitch made just like you.
