Keith Murray has elaborated on why his long-awaited appearance on N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs never came to fruition.

During an interview on Willie D Live that aired last week, he recalled an encounter involving the Queens MC at Rock The Bells last year that left a bad taste in his mouth.

After an animated and slightly incoherent recollection of how the rapper-turned-podcaster had him removed from an exclusive section LL COOL J invited him to, the Def Squad spitter alleged that the “Nothin'” hitmaker snubbed him a second time when they met outside the toilets.

When he approached the media personality about joining Drink Champs for a chat, the latter apparently “scurrie[d] off.”

“Why would he shun me like that?” Keith Murray said, before revealing: “I was supposed to go do [Drink Champs] MLK Day but I ain’t go … I ain’t go; I came to Willie D.”

Listen to him tell the story at the 29:17 mark below:

Keith Murray was slated to appear on the podcast last January, but N.O.R.E. explained a few months later why they didn’t end up hosting him.

“We love Keith Murray, but let’s also be upfront,” he began. “We’re concerned. His mental health doesn’t seem that we could put him in this environment and smoke and drink. Now, if he can we gon’ do it. If he can sit, he can smoke, he can drink, we gon’ do it.”

He continued: “Or he doesn’t have to smoke or drink. We don’t wanna — the thing is we have responsibilities. We know there’s a certain amount of people that watch us every week, every month, every muthafuckin’ year, but why would we put a rap legend in jeopardy? And that’s what it’s feeling like.”

In December 2021, the New York City podcaster confirmed the plans when he tweeted: “Yes we getting Keith Murry [sic] on drinkchamps in Jan when we come off the break.”

The concerns that followed were sparked by an interview Murray did with The Art of Dialogue, during which he claimed to have been intimate with both Shawnna and Foxy Brown. Both rappers denied this, after which social media users began voicing their concerns for Murray’s mental health.
