Kanye West’s 2014 album is slated to be a 12-song project that features “mostly a mixture of soul samples and tamed Yeezus-esque darkness,” according to a Billboard report that quotes an anonymous source who’s heard half the album. The source also says there is “nothing abrasive” on this effort.
The sound of Yeezus was praised by some, including HipHopDX, which awarded the effort with a 4.5 out of 5 in its review. However, it was criticized by many, also. 50 Cent, for example, said the following of the project. “It doesn’t feel like Hip-Hop to me,” he said. “It feels like a fusion of something else, like a weird combination of dance music sounds and stuff. It’s just him being an artist, you don’t have to agree with everything an artist does.
The Billboard report, titled “Kanye West’s 2014 Album: Everything We Know So Far,” also notes that several producers and artists have been tapped for the set, which has reportedly been recorded in Los Angeles, California in the States and Florence, Italy. Mike WiLL Made-It, Rick Rubin, Q-Tip, French Montana, Young Chop, Young Thug, James Blake, DJ Mustard and Tyga are among the acts potentially set to contribute to the album.
In December 23, Kanye West spoke about his next album to Rolling Stone.
I think my next album is going to be eight songs,” West said. “It’s just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can’t take anything else away. [Yeezus] was very, very designed. I took a departure from radio and popular music in order to get this seat here. If I hadn’t made Yeezus, I wouldn’t be sitting here with this cool font at Basel right here.”
