Taking to Instagram last week, Lacy shared a series of photos backstage with Ye and recalled a time that the DONDA rapper helped him through a rough patch.

“one time i was on the tour having a hard time crying to goodmorning by kanye so i wiped my tears and facetimed him to let him know how great that intro was,” he wrote. “he complimented me back about static quoting do you even really like this track then pulled up to my show in dublin of all places [teary eyed emoji] not very nostalgic but this was a sweet moment i felt like sharing idk.”

The linkup Steve is referring to was likely last September when the Compton native performed on the first of three nights of the annual Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally, County Laois. During his set, Ye was present in the audience and the two were even photographed hugging each another upon linking up.

According to Kurrco, the Yeezy boss played some new music for Lacy during their time together. Only a brief clip of the song was recorded by an attendee who didn’t even point the camera up, so it seems like it wasn’t a part of Lacy’s performance.

In 2022, Steve Lacy revealed that he had been in the studio with West, though fans anticipating a collaborative project between the two will have to be patient. TMZ spoke with the “Bad Habits” singer at Los Angeles International Airport, and when asked if he’d been in the studio with Ye, he replied: “Always, he never stops.”

He was then asked if the duo have an album cooking up. “Nah, I mean we just got a friendship,” Lacy said. “But I’m around, he’s making stuff around me constantly.”

“Album is beautiful,” Ye, a fellow Gemini, commented on Lacy’s album announcement. “One of the most inspiring people on the planet.”
