Kanye West announced he was running in the 2020 presidential election on the Fourth of July and since then, his campaign has been an invariable disaster. From his tear-filled abortion rant at his first campaign rally in July to missed deadlines to get on the ballot, Ye’s mission has been anything but smooth.
Now, TMZ reports the G.O.O.D. Music founder was chosen to run as Vice-President in the California election by the American Independent Party (AIP) to hurt Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
Vice Chairman of the AIP Markham Robinson admitted party leaders chose Ye to be on the ticket with Rocky De La Fuente — who’s running for president from the AIP — as an anti-Democratic strategy. They allegedly want to “help siphon” votes from Biden to increase the likelihood of a Republican remaining in the White House. Neither Kanye or De La Fuente were informed of their decision, which Robinson says was made in late August.
Robinson reportedly explained Kanye’s political views primarily fell in line with the AIP — but De La Fuente wasn’t exactly happy about their pick. Nevertheless, he’s embracing the development and recognizes Kanye’s popularity with the 18-25 demographic.
Kanye was previously an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump but claimed he was “taking the red hat off” in an interview with Forbes in July. Despite the gesture, many people still believe Ye’s campaign is all a ploy to keep Trump in office.
During the same interview, Ye also criticized Biden, saying, “I’m not saying Trump’s in my way, he may be a part of my way. And Joe Biden? Like come on man, please. You know? Obama’s special. Trump’s special. We say Kanye West is special. America needs special people that lead. Bill Clinton? Special. Joe Biden’s not special.”
The election takes place on November 3.
If you’re truly independent…shouldn’t you be trying to “help siphon” votes from BOTH sides? I’m sure there’s a sound strategy behind all of this, but as of now I don’t get it. I can’t wait until this election is over so we can have one less thing to blame the country’s divide on.
No. If you are truly independent then you should be worried about getting who you want elected. Just making sure some one loses doesn’t serve any real purpose. Being independent means you have the freedom to vote for who you feel is the best candidate regardless of party.
I’m pretty sure he’s referring to the candidate…not the voter.
and hopefully kanye and the president will be successful.
Waste of time Cali is the biggest Democrat stronghold. Its not a battleground state. Even if he gets 5000 votes in Cali that wont mean shit.
“Neither Kanye or De La Fuente were informed” / Not in the loop ass naqqa … medicate this demon asap
Kanye the “free thinker” is being used?! GASP!!!
Anyway, blacks aren’t beholden to Democrats (I’ve voted Republican many times although the Trumpian BS will not get a vote this time around) nor are we anxious to vote for a candidate solely due to race. Seeing an ignorant black rapper on a ticket won’t make us vote for him because he’s black. Better black men than Kanye West (Herman Cain, Alan Keyes, Cory Booker, Ben Carson, etc) have all run for POTUS and have not garnered the black vote. You’d be mad if you think Kanye West will be the guy. It’s almost a slap in the face to black voters.
