Kanye West, Chris Brown Win Big At American Music Awards

Chris Brown took home three major awards at the American Music Awards last night (Nov. 24) for artist of the year, as well as favorite male artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories.

I was shocked,” the singer said backstage. “I’m so
thankful and grateful. I thought Coldplay should have won the award,
    but I’ll take it.

But no matter what accolades Brown received, all eyes were on Kanye West, and whether or not he would throw one of his notorious temper tantrums.

Fortunately, Ye never got the chance, as he won two awards – favorite male rap/Hip Hop artist and favorite rap/Hip Hop album for “Graduation” [click to read].

I’d like to thank everyone who accepted me trying to break new
    boundaries in music,
West said in his acceptance speech. “It’s our
responsibility as musicians to keep pushing each other. … We will be
the new Beatles, the new [Jimi] Hendrix. I want to be Elvis.

Kanye also said he planned to give his awards to Lil Wayne, explaining that he though it was the New Orleans rapper’s year, not his.

This was West’s first AMA win. He vowed never to return to the show after he was beat out by Gretchen Wilson for best new artist in 2004.
