Kanye West Allegedly Almost Quit Rap Because It’s “The Devil’s Music”

As if the Sunday Service events aren’t enough of an indication, Kanye West appears to be heavily leaning toward being a full-time Christian rapper. In July, Nicki Minaj told her Queen Radio audience Ye was now a born-again Christian.

According to a new Apologia Studios interview with Kanye’s pastor Adam Taylor, he was also a Hail Mary away from quitting rap because it’s “the devil’s music.”

“One time, he told me that he wasn’t going to rap,” Taylor says near the 23:30-mark. “I said, ‘Why not?’ He said, ‘That’s the devil’s music.’ I said, ‘Hey, man. Rap is a genre. You can rap for God.’

“I think he was already thinking about it a little bit, but I definitely said, ‘Hey, bro. I think you need to use your talents that God’s given you and use that platform for God.'”

Taylor and Ye began their spiritual work together in May when Kanye became a member of the West’s Placerita Bible Church parish.

In a new trailer for his upcoming IMAX movie Jesus Is King: A Kanye West Film, he says, “I’m not here for your entertainment. I’m an evangelist,” a clear indication of where his head is these days.

    1. I mean he isn’t wrong. It is also heavily geared towards the youth these days. Cant see any self respecting, productive grown man rocking to the type of content being pushed in this era

      1. Agreed. Rap music culture in general does far more harm to the youth than it does good. Most rap is pretty negative, violent, hateful, crude, ect… And I’m a fan of gangster rap, but it’s definitely not a good influence for anyone.

    2. It became the focus of the genre in the early 2000s and they marketed it too much for teens. There has always been plenty of good music out there but it stopped getting pushed in favor of the teenage trash.

    3. I like to smoke the devils lettuce and then I like to listen to the devils music. That’s one way to look at it. Another is I like to smoke gods green miracle and listen to a Genre of entertainment not everyone agrees with but I am smart enough to separate myself form acting negatively and have it influence my actions.

      1. You’ve got common sense but we cannot deny that the negative music has a negative impact on impressionable youth. At the VERY least, we have kids running around rapping “fuck that bitch in the pussy, nigga pop da pill, move a kilo, then get a kill”. But yeah, I still like the music

        1. True, all we can do is try and educate the kids and let them know most of the Illegal and negative stuff these guys are rapping about is for entertainment and there are consequences to ‘living your raps” Thanks for your response.

    4. …didn’t this guy drop “You’re such a f*ckin hoe — I love it. I’m a sick f*ck I like a quick nut” ??? like recently??

    5. I think dude is processing things from a different stand point and trying to be a better person. Kanye will fight to be himself despite what people think of him this doesn’t change because you don’t agree with his opinions. It’s wack how people will rally behind your boldness and courage when it pushes something you agree with but when it’s not you turn your back or even bite his. Dude just had a spiritual experience and the pendulum is swinging at an extreme. Let the dude even out. Hip hop itself is not demonic but let’s not sit here and front like the majority of what it’s used to promote today is positive.

    6. Almost though… only almost quit. Too much godly money in “Devil’s music” for him to quit. Makes sense for such a righteous fellow ??‍♂️
