The opioid epidemic in the United States claimed nearly 47,000 lives in 2018 with 32 percent of those deaths involving prescription opioids, according to the Centers of Disease Control & Prevention. In December 2019, platinum-selling rapper Juice WRLD became a statistic after he suffered an accidental overdose at Chicago’s Midway Airport at the ripe age of 21.

But Grade A Productions label head Lil Bibby, who signed Juice to his imprint a few years ago, insisted he was trying to get the troubled rapper help for his addiction. In a new interview with VladTV, Bibby revealed Juice had agreed to go to drug rehab just days before his untimely passing.

“We already had him signed up for rehab,” Bibby said. “He agreed to do — because that was like pulling teeth with him. I found out that he was doing four (Percocets at a time). So I get to freaking out. Like, ‘What the fuck.’ I get to telling people like, ‘Look we got to send this kid to rehab.’ I’m telling everyone because I’m thinking ‘That’s a lot.’ Because all people I know only do at the max one … and these is the 30s.”

Bibby explained the only way to get Juice to go was to stage an intervention. Despite their best efforts, the “Lucid Dreams” rapper allegedly refused to quit his drug of choice completely.

“He said, ‘Alright, I’ll go. I’ll go,’” Bibby recalled. “‘But I’m not stopping.’ Like, ‘I’ll lower my dosage … but I like doing it too much.’”

The Interscope Records artist went into cardiac arrest at the Chicago Midway International Airport and was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Illinois on December 8, 2019. At the time, police said Juice suffered a seizure while officers and federal agents searched his private plane for guns and drugs.

Witnesses claimed Juice swallowed multiple Percocet pills, which contain oxycodone, in an effort to conceal them from authorities. Police and federal agents were called to the airport after being tipped off to a private jet carrying large amounts of narcotics.

Shortly after Juice’s death, the Cook County Medical Examiner ruled he died from an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine.
