JT has launched a new initiative named No Bars Reform in an effort to help other formerly incarcerated women rehabilitate into society.
Having spent two years behind bars for credit card fraud charges before being released in 2019, the cause is near and dear to the City Girls rapper’s heart. According to the initiative’s official website, No Bars will assist with therapy, job placement, social services and housing.

JT launched the non-profit alongside a freestyle of the same name on Thursday (July 13). In a statement, she expressed her hope that the song will usher in a new era of getting the respect she feels she deserves.
“No bars is a freestyle I made in the studio when I was having one of those days,” she wrote. “At the time like most of the time ppl were doubting me and questioning why I wasn’t as visual and vocal as others! Not knowing me personally…”

She continued: “I’d read the craziest things about myself and would want to scream but instead I went to the studio and popped my shit! I know most of y’all heard it but for those who haven’t I hope this freestyle finds you in a great place and is a start of the respect I deserve in music. I love music! I love my voice! I love poppin my shit.”

Along with her solo career and her non-profit organization, JT has been busy working on herself a lot as of late and began therapy earlier this year. Upon starting, the “Act Up” rapper noted that she was thrilled about taking steps to improve her mental health.
This wasn’t the first time JT got candid about her feelings or what’s happening in her personal life. In February, the rapper opened up about the things she’s afraid may get in the way of her working relationship with her City Girls partner in crime, Yung Miami.

During an interview with Angie Martinez, JT talked about her past experiences, both in and out of the limelight, and who she hopes to become as a woman and as an artist.
When the topic changed to the future of the City Girls, she said: “Hopefully the future of the City Girls can be the City Girls. And I pray that our egos does not separate it. Or the internet. Or guys. Or like, nothing!”
“Sometimes I be on my shit; sometimes she be on her shit,” she continued. “You know? Like, we’re human; we’re women. We’re not girls, we’re women. Sometimes I wanna be with my man, just like sometimes she wanna be with her man. And I hope that’s not what be the reason or interfere.”
However, JT made it clear that she doesn’t anticipate any animosity coming between her and her rap bestie, but rather worries that their individual interests may get in the way of their pursuits as a duo.

“I do not see beefin’ and breaking up with the City Girls at all,” she declared. “Ever! That’s just stupid. I hope we don’t get too busy.”
