With a date, track listing and cover art all revealed for John Legend and The Roots collaborative project Wake Up!, the pianist and singer/song-writer spoke on the album’s agenda with The Huffington Post.
Recounting a handful of historical reforms by President Barack Obama that have been passed, John Legend explained he still feels people are disappointed by the current state of our nation. “I think a lot of people expected even more. They’re like ‘Man, I thought this was gonna be the president that could wave his magic wand and make everything happen,’ and though he’s gotten a lot done, there’s been a lot of compromise on the way and there’s been a lot of difficulty getting the agenda adjusted. We still haven’t solved the recession yet; we still have a lot of frustration.”
Looking to inspire, he continued, “You want to try to make it better, and I think part of the way we do that is by creating art. But also since we see so much and we have access to so much and we have the ears of so many people, I think we’d be remiss if we didn’t try to make the world better in other ways.”
With an initial thought to choose ?uestlove and The Roots for this collaborative project, Legend added, “I have even more respect for [?uestlove] now having been able to work with him and I think it was a really great collaboration. I’m happy we were able to do it.”
John Legend and The Roots’ Wake Up! will be released September 21 on Sony Music.

So which is more “true?” Maybe you’ve read some books, seen some interviews, seen some movies, but we all know the story–CFR, Trilateral, NWO, global government, blah, blah, blah. And a “story” is all that it is. I’m not trying to come at you personally, but you seem to be a pretty active representative of your demographic, so I thought I’d throw a thought or two your way. You’re probably an intelligent person and I think that you should keep educating yourself, but a lot of this stuff is just pure nonsense. the major difference between media in the TV and media on the internet is the fact that every channel on tv is controlled by 5 corporations. These corporations have special interests because they have investments in other ventures. Now, you can see how it difficult to trust a news media that isnt going to report “bad” things that are going on w/ these ventures nor will they report against their advertisers because its all about the $$$

I started out as democrat, but the more i read i learned that people in the political business are corrupt and they work for special interest. They become submerge in their power trips. I’ve gone lobbying a couple times and it was pathetic how the whole state senate never had time for we the people.
i’m college educated so all these philosophers,writers, and political ideologists they have help me only scratch the surface.
i’m a skeptic of almost everything including these “conspiracies” ,but you have to understand that when you mix your education, when you learn things wbout how Europe use to function and how the church was on some really corrupt, to nazis, to slavery, etc you start to find out that in every era in time there has been a group of people that were on “power trip” and it all had something to do with $$$$ so the whole new world order to me wouldn’t be a stretch but i never advocate about it because i’m not certain All i know is that the people in the position of power always seem to have ulterior motives.
In the end what i try to encourage that the power is held by the people and not political figures that do what they want(i mean i bet if we lowered political figures salary by 50%, they would leave their careers)
So its okay to see the media tv or internet as long as you can look up a handful of sources so you can better formulate an educated conclusion of what is going on!!!
Asa. Respect. Keep thinking, you make some very solid points (particularly about the media, and I applaud your attempts to diversify the sources of your information consumption). I feel your frustration. I’m a lawyer out in DC, and I’m no superstar, but I have the privilege of getting to see some of this stuff up close. It’s mostly ugly and petty, which can be discouraging, but I’ve also seen some pretty incredible and intelligent people do a little bit of good through sheer determination and wit and that gives me some hope. But things move slow. The problem is that once you’re in the seat of power (whether it be the presidential one or a senatorial one), small movements generate large waves and you have a myriad of interests trying to force, push, and pull you to make small movements in one direction or another. Because you can’t do anything unless you stay in power, you sometimes have to cater to the people who are organized enough and influential enough to keep you in power so that you can chip away at the things you wish to accomplish. Some of it is corruption, but most of it is just political reality–power is only really influenced by some other countervailing power.
Not that you necessarily subscribe to them, but a lot of these conspiracy theories just cloud people’s minds with a labyrinth of half-truths. It helps people make sense of a situation that is otherwise confusing–it creates the impression that things black and white. But things are not black and white and we should be skeptical of those who suggest that it is. There are most definitely very powerful interests out there, but they are not superhuman and they do not all want the same thing. Whatever your interest, it’s about organization and cunning–a lot of these interests just happen to be highly organized and highly cunning, and they have been for a long time. I think that there is a decent case to be made regarding this idea of an American oligarchy, but they aren’t all-powerful, things can change. I respect your thoughts, and you seem passionate about this stuff, so I just hope that you hold out a little hope that things can change as well. Stay up.
