John Legend has officially begun work on his third album, according to Billboard.com.
This album, which is as of now untitled, is the follow-up to last year’s Once Again which sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.
The Grammy award-winning artist says that he has “three songs I love already” and has begun his work. “We’re really just starting,” said Legend. “I’m usually pretty
prolific and pretty quick with my output, so I’m guessing I’ll be done
with it by the end of the spring and put it out either late summer or
early fall. That’s what I’m headed towards.”
Legend, who will be releasing a final single from Once Again, Show Me, has yet to decide a specific theme or musical direction. “The songs I’ve done so far are different from each other,” he says.
According to the singer, he’s already hooked up with will.i.am and Rick Knowles for the album, and plans to work with Pharrell Williams and Kanye West. “We’ll see who else,” he added.
Also keeping John Legend busy is his label Homeschool Records. He will be launching the label with the second album by British vocalist Estelle titled Shine. The album is due in February, and will feature Legend as both a performer and executive producer. According to Legend, he was “very involved with the whole thing. I wrote with her on just about
every track and … made a lot of key decisions when it came to track
selection, producers, getting the right people involved. I treated it
almost like it was my own.”
Legend also spoke on Dr. Donda West, Kanye’s mother: “She loved him and supported him unconditionally…She
was really there for him a lot and was … really a great example for
him. You could tell how close they were, and I just can’t imagine how
devastated he is right now.”
The singer says he plans to attend Dr. West’s funeral next week.
