Joe Budden has unloaded on Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new single, “Bongos,” which he doesn’t believe lives up to the hype.
Budden and his co-hosts broke down the reggaeton-tinged single during an episode of The Joe Budden Podcast on Sunday (September 10), and the rapper-turned-podcaster said he felt as though the record was “contrived” and sounded like a “science project” cooked up by “AI.”
“Remember, I said all the top, top, top, top, artists make songs like a science project? That’s what this sounds like,” he offered candidly.
“This beat is undeniable because it’s already worked. We gonna put two of our biggest women rappers on it, talking they normal shit, but I don’t think this song is gonna work at all.
He continued: “I hate the song. It’s not better than any of the songs like it. ‘WAP,’ ‘Up,’ it’s not better than Cardi B feature. This is Cardi getting ready to follow-up her debut album… They not gonna spend the money to keep this rolling into the fourth and first quarter.
“The music business is reactionary. They’re gonna wait to see what the research is on this song… This record don’t seem like it has lasting power… There’s nothing in it to make it stay.”
Budden also said he believes the time for “commercialized ratchet” music has passed and it’s time for “ghetto ratchet” to shine, citing “Pound Town” hitmaker Sexyy Red as a prime example.
“We need a ‘Bodak Yellow’ now. This sounds like two women who can’t make a song,” Joe jabbed. “I don’t see it.”
Regardless of Budden’s commentary, “Bongos” is expected to make a splash on the Billboard Hot 100 next week after dropping on Friday (September 8). The racy visual has racked up over eight million views on YouTube alone since its release.
However, fans shouldn’t expect Cardi B’s eagerly anticipated sophomore album to arrive this year as she recently revealed she’s looking at a 2024 release.
“I was indecisive but I was like, you know what? I should already start talking about the album because I’m going to be putting it out very soon,” she told Hot 97 last week.
“But it’s like, I have to watch it because I always feel like somebody watching me — it’s going to come out when it’s going to come out. I can say that — it’s not going to come out this year.”
The man’s a complete fucking idiot but he’s right. Megan and cardi are trash and are only famous for making being a hallway for multiple hotdogs popular
While Joe might be right, we’ve heard his music, and he isn’t musically inclined enough to determine a hit. The last hit he had…was when the Wu put their paws on him.
you sound like a dumb ass. a hit doesnt equal a good song. Joe budden has good songs albums worth actually. he’s also a better rapper then both cardi and Megan
agreed that dude is a clown for saying that bout budden
Undeniably, that song “Bongos” is absolute garbage though!
Amazing that one couldn’t tell the other what a load of trash that song is!
I don’t feel it though!
I have yet to meet any grown or young man that bumps these women. I could never play their shit in my car or at home. Good for clubs, and girls practicing their stripper moves in their moms bedroom/basement.
A diva bickering about 2 other divas. Yawn
Who cares what this one hit wonder has to say about the industry. He’s an outsider with a podcast and opinion dassit.
Apparently, you do, since you posted the exact same thing TWICE, CB and MTS. But it’s no use, y’all suck, LITERALLY! BAAHAHAHAHAHA

Would the world be better or worse if people stopped ingesting garbage?
