Joe Budden has attempted to set the record straight after allegedly dissing his former co-hosts Rory and Mal in a new freestyle.

Set over the beat to Drake‘s “Family Matters” — itself aimed at Kendrick Lamar — a snippet of the track circulated on Tuesday (May 21) and found Budden (or at least somebody who sounds a lot like him) mocking his former podcast partners.

After the freestyle began to go viral on social media, Budden — who retired from rap in 2018 — chimed in and confirmed that the song was not real, claiming it was the work of artificial intelligence.

“AI smh,” he commented on Elliott Wilson‘s Instagram repost of the song. (Full disclosure: Wilson is the Editorial Director of Hip Hop Journalism at UPROXX Studios, HipHopDX‘s parent company.)

The fake track referenced the financial issues that Rory and Mal had with Budden that led to the end of their tenure on his podcast.

The AI Budden rapped: “It’s clear to me you can’t see the books/ It’s clear to me you think I’m a crook.”

There appears to be no love lost between the two parties as Joe Budden laid into his former colleagues last year.

After Rory and Mal took issue with Budden being named the number one Hip Hop media by Complex, the former Slaughterhouse rapper put the duo on blast.

“To whom this may concern,” he said on his self-titled podcast. “This is not even on page one of the manual, ’cause you n-ggas ain’t in the bookstore. Instead of critiquing people’s placement on this list, we need more critiquing on why you’re not on it. To everyone not on it, shut the fuck up. There’s some steps that you n-ggas have missed.

“To whom it may concern, stop holding a microphone. I’m just giving out podcast advice. It’s certain n-ggas, y’all can’t speak to me, y’all didn’t do the work yet. You didn’t go to the bookstore.”

Budden added: “Hire the editors. Get people to help. Invest in the staff. Pay the staff. Get more staff. Stop check chasing. Stop doing the bare minimum and expecting that to yield results. You n-ggas are the bare minimum boys.”

Rory and Mal had also called Budden a “thief” and a “cat burglar” over the alleged financial issues they had with him when they starred on his podcast.

The pair also said there was no chance of a reconciliation after they claimed “a lot of money” was taken from them.
