Joe Budden Leaves Everyday Struggle

On December 18, fans of Complex’s ever-popular daily Hip Hop show Everyday Struggle were shocked to discover that one of the show’s hosts and arguably its biggest draw, had left.

“My contract is up,” Joe Budden tweeted. “[I’m] waiting to see how this plays out.”

The main Everyday Struggle Twitter account and that of interim guest host DJ Whoo Kid were business as usual, with Whoo Kid even suggesting he was simply filling in while Budden was on “baby duties this week.”

Budden responded to Whoo Kid, stating “I am not on paternity and they should stop using my 3 day old child to mask internal chaos.” Whoo Kid replied cordially, “I will make it clear that I’m not here taking your spot brother.” And Budden noted that it was all love, and this was an issue between him and Complex’s parent company, Verizon.

Another tweet from Budden suggested that his departure comes down to dollars and cents. He has noted the cultural significance of the show and may have felt that the compensation offered didn’t match the contribution he was making. “Creators will be properly acknowledged & compensated, or they won’t create,” he said.

The fan reactions were swift. May noted that without Budden, the other hosts weren’t a strong enough draw to hold the show together.

Budden, though, reminded his fans that he could just create a new platform. “I’ll create another if need be,” he said, “[and] another, and another … it’s when you CAN’T create that you move WITHOUT integrity.”

What are your thoughts on Budden’s departure? Let us know in the comments.

    1. It ain’t a departure, just a typical Joe Budden fit. I’ll bet he is back in a week. Anyways, Joe being an asshole is the reason this show is what it is. Like First Take with Stephen A.

        1. Bruh,

My thoughts exactly…I thought to myself a few weeks ago that I was proud of budden because he went further than C tha god’s predictions and then this week….BAM….I hope they can get it together.

    2. This isnt the move Verizon/Complex. Remember the Can you hear me now?Guy. Yeah…he came and doubled back on yo bitch azzes with Sprint and fucked yo hussle up. Joe is the rap equivalent of him. Yall dont wanna loose Budden cus hes on fire like 50 cent GRDT but Podcast/Media equivilant. Cut the fattest check of your life or go get DJ Vlad to fill his spot. Bahahha. He already locked in with yall like AK.

    3. I wonder if Jeezy got in his head. Jeezy had a lot to say about how Everyday Struggle has a platform to influence and motivate the culture rather than dissing or critique it, as they often do. Who knows…

    4. as an emcee – he’s the only one who knows what is up… that will go from Everyday Struggle to just a Struggle Everyday….

      1. They don’t wanna hear news about emcees or have them over (the rappers joe likes) they wanna hear the yatchtys uzis young thugs migos lil pump xxx, basically everyone joe budden trashes on the show so that’s not what’s up , at least to complex

      1. Everyday Struggle has generated subscribers for Complex as a whole, and shone a new light on the company. Joe Budden forces fans of hiphop and R&B to clash with his perspective and opinions. He generates emotions towards topics in thought provoking ways that can’t be replaced. Otherwise their impact on the culture is limited to the perfect shots of retro sneakers and videogames they post on Instagram.

    5. Good week for him to take off, I doubt he could spin the eminem reviews like whoo kid has, I just don’t think Budden could lie so hard about the product.

    6. SAD ONE OF THE MOST TRUEST PERSONALITIES OF OUR CULTURE… ALWAYS IN THE SPOT LIGHT FOR SOME BULLSHIT… COMPLEX BETTER STEP UP TO THE PLATE.

    7. Joe Buddens leaving Everyday Struggle will be like Skip Bayless leaving First Take…the show can continue but they’ll just be pretending to disagree instead of really disagreeing

    8. JoeBudden is Joe Buddens biggest fan. His bars are weakest in slaughterhouse by far and he acts like anyone needs to hear him criticize every single thing about hip hop today. His major label album was hot garbage and never heard a hot song since. Had potential spitting with clue and desert storm but snuffed himself out to be a full time rectum

      1. pure hate.. lemme guess you’re a yachty and/or migos fan. in case you didnt notice, Joey has LOTS of fans, dedicated fans at that. say what you want about him- he’s emo, sensitive, hasnt had a “hit” (if you care about these things) since “Pump it Up,” call him a one-hit wonder… these are things you can say about Joey. But to say he doesnt have bars? Very much NOT true. Even people that dont like him admit he’s got bars for days. And FYI, his major label debut is actually a very good album, it just wasnt promoted properly, and the singles didnt really offer a good image of who he is as an artist- and it STILL went gold.

        1. No I’m older than you likely and don’t listen to amigos or whatever. Joe is just a less flashy Kanye West with his tantrums and unfounded egocentrism

    9. I get why, besides, Joe Budden clearly doesn’t like any of the mumble rappers they HAVE to cover and is always at odds with the popular guests they have over, it’s a conflict of interests

      1. dead on! record labels must have gotten into complex’s/verizon’s ears about him making their “artists” look wack + dumb

    10. The industry hate the fact their garbage artist with no talent cant hold a candle to the artist of the past so trying 2cram it down the public throat doesn’t work anymore plus the crowd they are targeting don’t buy music radio is dying nobody of any intelligent wants to hear this crap

    11. Joe had a Simon cowell type effect on the show. People wanted to hear his real talk or bullshit. It made you had to tune in. Joe needs to get a show with lighting rod my neck my back girl. She goes hard at people to plus she’s bout that life, don’t think many broads would test her.

    12. Well that’s a wrap for that show won’t be tuning in anymore without Budden it aint right that’s like Drink Champs without NORE

    13. Without Budden there is no ES and without ES there is no Complex. Verizon Fucked that right up. WTF do they even know? STAR? Lol Please. That shits whack af.
