Joe Budden Not Surprised By Jeezy Divorce Due To Jeannie Mai’s Comments About ‘Black Guys’

Joe Budden has said that he’s not surprised that Jeezy and his estranged wife, Jeannie Mai, are heading to divorce court thanks to the latter’s past comments about Black men on her now-defunct talk show.

Budden was referring to a statement that Mai made on a past episode of The Real, where she remarked: “I loved Black guys, but for me, dark meat on the side, white [meat] keeps me mean and lean” when asked about dating Black men.

“I used to date Black men, I think they’re attractive. But what I decided to stick to is, because it just kept me happiest, was my man Freddy who happens to be white,” she added, referring to her previous husband Freddy Harteis.

On the latest episode of his eponymous podcast, which dropped on Saturday (September 23), the former Slaughterhouse MC said that the split wasn’t a shock thanks to those comments.

“Y’all do know that before she got married, there was that clip from her show saying she wouldn’t date a Black guy, right?” he asked his co-hosts. “At home is where you’re going to be true to your beliefs, whatever they are. I don’t know what happened between them, but that comment, and him filing… I hope it would have worked.”

He continued: “It saddens me that it didn’t work, because they were cute as a couple. But I’m not surprised.”

Check out Budden’s comments, as well as Mai’s past remarks, below.

According to court documents obtained by HipHopDX, Jeezy (real name Jay Jenkins) filed a petition for divorce in the Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia on September 14. The rapper listed the marriage as “irretrievably broken,” and mentioned the one-year-old child he shares with the talk show host.

Jeezy also requested that the court honor the terms of his prenuptial agreement with Mai, which was signed in March 2021 before they got married.

Despite the filing, a recent report suggests that Mai is hopeful of mending their marriage.

According to Page Six, Mai has been left “devastated” by Jeezy filing for divorce and she wants her family back.

“The truth is Jeannie wants her marriage to work, and wants her family to be one solid unit,” a Page Six source relayed. “She is devastated that Jeezy filed for divorce.

“[Jeannie] deeply loves Jeezy, and she wants to work things out. She did not get married to get divorced. This was not a part of the plan. This is not how she ever imagined things would go down.

“Even though Jeezy has filed, Jeannie is holding out hope that he would be willing to sit down and works things [out]. She is hoping for a resolution and wants to remain as a united family unit.”

    2. Joe speaking about other people’s marriages? Has he ever been married? Dude can’t keep a woman, friendship, or even a record deal. Fuckouttahere Hoey.

    3. These dudes be fucking these women who are racist and shit and think because they like sex with you that they don’t still have their same racial issues. Ku Klux Klansmen used to love fucking black women and then go out and hang some black people. Extreme example, but he and that woman probably had nothing in common outside of physical attraction, and a lot of it was more than likely based in some weird fetish shit on both sides as evidenced by her comments.

      1. I had so much respect for her and behind the statement she made about black mens, it’s going to be hard for her to get a job, she’s prejudice, Black Mark on her Career. We all must be careful of what we say, it comes along with consequences
