Jim Jones Doesn’t Think Pusha T Is Top 50 Rapper: ‘They Don’t Play His Shit Outside’

Jim Jones has weighed in on the Top 50 rapper debate (again), claiming that one MC in particular, Pusha T, is undeserving of a spot on the list.

During a recent episode of the Rap Caviar Podcast, the Dipset capo ruffled some feathers as he chimed in with his thoughts regarding Billboard and VIBE‘s 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time list, which placed the Clipse rapper at No.29.

“What has he done that puts him in the greatest rappers of all time besides talk about coke that he probably didn’t get himself?” Jones questioned the other panel members.

While he did give Pusha T his flowers as a lyricist, he questioned his impact on the culture, overall.

“He’s nice as shit. He could rap his ass off, but what has he done?” asked Jones. “Nobody has dressed like him. Nobody wants to be like Pusha T. I don’t remember nothing. And let’s not be evil, but we don’t talk about rap where the n-gga that’s popping the bitches wanna fuck and the n-ggas wanna be like. I don’t know too many n-ggas in this game that was leaning towards being like Pusha T.”

“Pusha T don’t hold no weight out here. He not pushing no shit out here,” continued Jones, while Bootleg Kev referenced his 2018 Grammy nominated album Daytona the first full-length project from Kanye West’s Wyoming sessions.

Jones went on to say that he’d “easily” put Big Sean and Cam’ron over King Push. “You go in these clubs, I don’t know no records they play in the club with Pusha T. They don’t play his shit outside.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jones doubled down on his declaration that Drake is the best rapper ever.

“Drake is the only one that gets played anyplace on this Earth, and they’re gonna know it in English,” he said. “If you’re not putting Drake in the Top 2 of all time, like, what are we gonna do? We gonna keep putting shade on his name? He has broke every single statistic, period. You heard?”

When asked if everyone could agree that JAY-Z was No.1 on the “G.O.A.T. list,” Jim Jones wasn’t hearing it, stating, “We can’t agree on that.”

“I can’t agree to that … But let me talk some shit. Yes. He’s at the top of the barrel when it comes to what he’s done. He’s a billionaire. He’s done some shit for dope boys that people never even thought could be. He’s put himself in rooms that you never could imagine. Alright? And his business acumen is way bigger than his music acumen, at this point. I haven’t heard too much JAY-Z music in the last six to seven years that was really hittin’ out here in these streets.”

Jim Jones previously sang Drake’s praises in a Complex interview on March 10, and the comments raised a lot of eyebrows.

“I would say he’s the greatest of all time,” Jimmy told the outlet. “I would just give that to him. And I mean, there’s a lot of people from the beginning and people that invented Hip Hop, I know.

“But the greatest of all time, it’s a big statement, and the relevancy that he keeps showing year after year, hit after hit, record after record. Any song that he has put out has seemed to go multiple platinum. That’s never happened before in history.”

    1. Boy started rapping like last Thursday. They pit the mic in his face, because they know he’ll say something stupid. Old a•s kid! Still dressing like he 15. Meanwhile dressing in suits like he’s approaching 50. And he wonder why Cam don’t freak with him. I don’t even consider him as an MC.

      1. Don’t freak with him? Dude you should read over your comment before you post it 5 times. Half of what you said doesn’t even make sense.

    6. Jim and the Dips are all about swag, drip and optics. The most overrated group on the internet. Its been a good 20 years since we got some heat from them.

    7. What fuckin real heads bump Drake. Drake makes music for hoes and dudes who think bitches are gonna like them because they cry a lot. As for Jimmy, I ain’t never heard someone say “Yo put that Jim Jones shit on!” Dude has always been kinda off up there if you know what I mean.

    8. Just looked at some quick Spotify numbers and Clipse have more monthly listeners than Diplomats. And Pusha T has more monthly listeners than Jim and Cam combined

    9. Jimmy got a whole point … pusha is extremely overrated… what’s the last dope song pusha had out… what’s the last feature he killed? Daytona and the other album was ok… it got 1 play from me… neva need to hear that shit again…don’t get me wrong , the Clips albums were solid … but idk how pusha T name even comes up in top 50 rappers

    10. I gotta agree with Jimmy on this one.. Pusha T not even top 100 in my book.. I’d put Paul Wall before him

    11. Why would anyone care or value Jim Jones opinion on anything? He was Cam’s hypeman and weed carrier for years until Max B wrote the song that got him recognized. Jim Jones is a whole nobody his opinion holds no weight at all.

    12. Why is the definition of being “hot” whether or not your shit is played in clubs? Clearly pushas music is not made for clubs. Shit played in clubs tends to be the worst music out.

    13. They don’t play him outside either. Jim is beyond delusional, for example asking for another round with Jadakiss. This dude really thinks he’s nice….he really should stop!

    14. Jim has lost his marvels for real. Drake brings him on stage once and then all the sudden Drake is the Goat, better than Jay and Pusha T aint shit? Jimmy is a fangirl for real. I hope Pusha comes out and destroys him. Pushas pengame is no joke.

    15. To say Pusha T doesn’t influence ppl is absolutely ridiculous! Pusha T actually dresses like a grown man he had taste and carry’s himself in a mature manor. He’s a mature rapper and his music carters to ppl with a certain mindset and taste level which is not a mindset that exists on a mass level. He sounds jealous and like Drakes puppet. Pushas influence on music is cemented and needed in HipHop especially nowadays with the clowns everywhere . Jim Jones could disappear and no one would even notice

      1. Think about what you wanna about either one what Jim said is 100% truth and I like both of them. I do think Pushas the better Mc but all of what he said is factual only thing debatable is whether he’s in the top 50 I vote no he’s not in my top 50

    16. Feel like Jim is just trying to push a negative narrative on Pusha T in order to get some type of love from Drake or Drake fans. If you think he’s nice than that should be enough alone to be mentioned. Everything is not about influence, popularity and impact if It was than Vanilla Ice and master p might be top 10 rappers. Pusha T is a great example of surviving a tough industry, being persistent and creating longevity for himself.

    17. Jim been wanting to redeem himself after that Verzuz disaster. He might be barking up the right tree now…

      1. Lol where you from bro. Of course people were playing him, Dipset had major pull around that time

    18. Pusha T’s solo stuff has largely been disappointing. I think clipse is top 50 as a group, but I mean how can you put pusha in the top 50 when he isn’t even better than Malice? Jim himself is no master lyricist but he makes a good point

    20. Jim has a point. Pusha T isn’t even better than Malice (Malice is no joke!)…so I would say clipse is top 50 but Pusha is not.

    21. Sorry, I don’t get this, why does this site report on the opinions of Lord Jamar, Melle Mel and Jim Jones? Who gives a damn about their opinions, no one is checking for them surely? The last thing I heard about Jim Jones was him getting decimated by Jada.

    22. I feel like Jim is on Drake so hard because he’s probably tryna get a feature from him to help his career. But really who even values Jim’s take on real hip hop?

    29. Jim has an album out with Hitmaka but it’s not doing well so he is resorting to this, sad if you ask me Eddie G

    30. This dude old and crusty af Harlem don’t even claim this man. Why is his opinion worth writing a headline about?

    31. This dude old and crusty af Harlem don’t even claim this man. Why his opinion worth writing a headline about?

    32. cause he isn’t. if, like most of you keyboard warriors, need REALISM. push talking his brothers stories. hes also freddie gibbs age STILL talking coke.

    33. Pusha is not a top rapper but singing clown and crooner Drake is hip hop’s all time goat….. Stop sniffing glue, idiot. No real standup man listens to Drake and Dipset garbage. Only sissy fraggots.

    34. Jim had Ballin thats it and this is probably why Dr. DRE did release that Dipset shit, because they some shit and his new album with Hitmaka is oversampled, looped and boring as shit sit down and STFU.

    35. Pusha T? More like Do A Wee!!!!! Hahaha! I got ya!!!!!! HahahHaha!! Sheeeesh!! Gotta hand it to him tho, ain’t ya? You don’t have to be crazy to work here……but it sure does help!!!!! Hahahahaja!!! You guys know what I’m talking about! Cannot wait to bump these tunes in my Altima whilst I’m jaywalking at the strip tonight. Downtown Wisconsin is where it’s at, you know dat FOR REAL!!!!

      1. You are about as funny as cancer. This same daft comment on everything, its not even an original gag, this listing of supposed underground obscure rap artists has been done to death. Fxxx off already.

      2. Tw@t? More like Thot!!!!! Hahaha! I got ya!!!!!! HahahHaha!! Sheeeesh!! Gotta hand it to him tho, ain’t ya? You don’t have to be crazy to work here……but it sure does help!!!!! Hahahahaja!!! 36. Jim is a joke, they don’t play your shit inside a circus clown, Pusha is legend, I’d choose skill over fashion.

    37. On this current day, Pusha has more monthly listeners than Jim, Camron, Juelz and the Diplomats as a whole but this bumbling idiot as what does he bring to the culture? How about the fact that Jim is 50 and still trying to hold on to outfits that worked for him 20 years ago? This is what happens when you get stuck in a moment and try to relive is over and over but Ballin is done homie. The Dips most definitely were on point at some point but he’s literally the weakest link. I like Drake and I like Push, I think they both mastered their areas in the sport but Push literally destroyed the man he’s calling number 1!

His commentary on Jay is utterly ridiculous! To say you really haven’t heard a lot from him in 6-7 year when the man is 53 is just insane. He dropped the 4:44, hip hop chased after it, it was a smart album and it matched his age. Carry on Jim as you and Marino run around calling yourselves LOBBY BOYS

    39. Dear HipHop DX-

      Sincerely-

      Hip Hop Fans

    40. If we use Jim Jones’s criteria, then Eminem should be #1.
      1. At least 3 certified classics
      2. At least 3 DIAMOND-selling albums; multiple DIAMOND-selling singles
      3. In a lot of people’s Top 10 at minimum
ONE of the most streamed without putting NOTHING out
