Jim Jones has shared a story about the name he used to have for Pharrell while saluting him for accepting the role of Louis Vuitton’s Men’s Head Designer earlier this week.

The Harlem native shared the story after TMZ asked him about Pharrell accepting the new job. According to Jimmy, the legendary producer is worthy of the position and remembered the first time he met Pharrell and how blown away he was with his style.

“I think Pharrell deserves that position,” Jim Jones said. “Pharrell been one of the curators for fashion in Hip Hop since the beginning of his time. I remember the first time we ever had a session, me and Cam with Pharrell, and his style was so different. He had on a fur coat in the summertime. I never understood it.

He added: “I’m looking back and seeing forward, he was already ahead of his time when it comes to fashion and things like that. I tip my hat to Pharrell. I used to call him Pharrell Chanel, but now we going to call him Pharrell Louis.

“I think that Pharrell fills the position from Virgil in a great way, and I think Virgil would be very satisfied with who they chose to pick to fill that position.”

Juelz Santana chimed in and explained that Pharrell isn’t replacing Abloh: “And I wouldn’t say take his place. I don’t want to use that reference I would just say he filling that position, filling that void cause you can’t take the place of a great like Virgil.”

The French fashion house made Pharrell’s hire official on February 14, revealing that Skateboard P’s first Louis Vuitton collection will be unveiled next June during Men’s Fashion Week in Paris.

“The way in which he breaks boundaries across the various worlds he explores, aligns with Louis Vuitton’s status as a Cultural Maison, reinforcing its values of innovation, pioneer spirit, and entrepreneurship.”

Louis Vuitton’s previous artistic director of menswear, Virgil Abloh, passed away on November 28, 2021, following a private two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

After his tragic death, LVMH didn’t replace Abloh’s historic role, which he assumed in 2018. He was the first Black person to occupy an artistic director job at a top French fashion house.
