JID may pride himself on his lyrical talents, but he’s admitted he personally “hates” that type of rap.

During an appearance on the Throwing Fits podcast, the Dreamville rapper opened up about his taste in music and dislike of lyrically-minded Hip Hop.

“I listen to my shit ’cause I’m amazing, but I don’t listen to my style of rap,” he said. “People who do the style of rap that I do, I fucking hate it. It’s kind of weird.”

He added: “I’m just a jittery person so it comes out like that. Like, I can’t even stop myself.”

JID isn’t the only rapper to admit he doesn’t listen to the type of music he makes.

Following the release of his American Dream album earlier this month, 21 Savage revealed he doesn’t play much rap music and instead prefers R&B.

“I love R&B. I listen to that shit more than anything,” he said on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast. “I don’t even listen to rap like that.”

Bobby Shmurda also stated he doesn’t listen to rap during an interview with The Danza Project last year.

“I want to listen to some bloodclot reggae,” he said. “That’s why I don’t listen to rap, for real. I don’t listen to rap. I don’t know nothing about rappers. Only time I listen to rap is when I’m in the club, I just dance to anything.”

Speaking to SPIN back in 2011, Tyler, The Creator admitted he liked rap but “didn’t really” listen to the genre.

“I made [the ‘Yonkers’] beat as a joke, like shitty New York ’90s something,” he said at the time. “I don’t really listen to rap, I just like to rap.

“So people were saying [Odd Future] is like the new Wu-Tang [Clan]. No we’re not! I don’t even fucking listen to Wu-Tang. I want to be compared to shit I listen to.”

Despite JID disliking lyrical Hip Hop, Big Boi recently credited him with making him “want to rap.”

“I hear somebody like you and I’m like, ‘Yeah, boy. He get it.’ I love MCs who are not just rapping, but they’re saying stuff at the same time,” the OutKast rapper told Rolling Stone in October.

“To me, being an MC, hearing JID’s music makes me want to rap. That’s that shit.”
